The Top 6 Draft Questions Facing the Vikings

No fan knows for sure which way the Minnesota Vikings will approach the early rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft.

The Top 6 Draft Questions Facing the Vikings

But they’ll find out in less than three weeks.

The draft begins in Green Bay, Wisconsin, on April 24th, and the Vikings are scheduled to pick four times. Entering the draft, the team has some impactful questions, and these are those ranked in ascending order (No. 1 = most important draft question).

6. Will Minnesota Leave the Draft with a WR3 Prospect?

An annual tradition for roughly a decade, fans wonder if Minnesota will find a WR3 from the draft or free agency — or merely be content with a player like Jalen Nailor, K.J. Osborn, Chad Beebe, or Bisi Johnson.

This draft and free agency are no different. Players more talented than Nailor will dribble out of this draft, and in theory, the Vikings could sign Amari Cooper. Will Minnesota draft a promising WR3 type or just continue to roll with Nailor, who is decent but not overly consistent?

5. Do They Draft an RB?

Minnesota already employs an enticing one-two punch at running back with Aaron Jones, who rejoined the team on a two-year extension last month, and Jordan Mason, who turned purple thanks to a trade with the San Francisco 49ers.

But is that enough?

This draft will feature about 30 running backs who enter the NFL, an extraordinarily deep class. The Vikings may not be in the market for a Round 1 or 2 halfback. But what about Rounds 3 through 7?

The team has already met with SMU tailback Brashard Smith, so watch his name on Saturday, April 26th.

4. Any Veteran Players Acquired via Trade?

At least in the shadows, high-profile players like Sauce Gardner, Denzel Ward, and Tyreek Hill have pranced in the Vikings trade rumor mill. If any of those deals came to fruition, it would probably occur during the draft.

Therefore, the question becomes — probably a long shot — will Minnesota add any non-rookies during the draft via trade?

3. Will Kwesi Adofo-Mensah Try a Safety Again?

The draft cards of Georgia’s Malaki Starks and South Carolina’s Nick Emmanwori will probably stare Adofo-Mensah in the face on draft night.

He must decide if he learned a lesson from the Lews Cine draft pick three years ago, trust Theo Jackson with starting safety duties, or hop in the sack with Starks or Emmanwori.

Per the mock draft community, growing sentiment suggests Minnesota could draft one of the two — Cine memories be damned.

2. Do the Vikings Trade Back?

Adofo-Mensah only has four draft picks. He sold most of them a year ago inside the Dallas Turner trade. Adofo-Mensah needs more draft picks for youth in the pipeline. The only way to do that without trading veteran players is to trade out of the No. 24 pick and turn that puppy into a domino.

March 26th, 2025. Minnesota General Manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah addressed the media from the TCO Performance Center to recap the start of the team’s free agency signings and look ahead to the 2025 NFL Draft. Adofo-Mensah had four picks entering the draft after the 2024 trade for outside linebacker Dallas Turner.

Some thought the executive would do so in 2023, but he stuck to his guns and drafted Jordan Addison.

Will he pick the best player available at No. 24 or begin the trade-back snowball? Adofo-Mensah can really show off his stuff if he finishes the draft with a traditional seven picks.

1. What’s the Foremost Priority with the First Pick?

Inquiring minds want to know: Who’s the pick? A defensive tackle, offensive guard, cornerback, and safety represent the clearest options, but no one is too sure which path the Vikings will forge.

Adofo-Mensah proved in free agency that he’s in it to win via building the trenches, so maybe the pick will be an interior offensive or defensive lineman.

This Vikings draft is one of the trickiest to predict in years, thanks to a fruitful free agency.
