Rookies are in Camp and All Eyes on JJ McCarthy

Vikings Territory Breakdown Podcast

And so it begins. The Vikings have embarked on the 2024 practice season by bringing in their newest draftees and assorted others for Rookie Mini-camp at TCO Performance center. And while the news isn’t plentiful, having the QBOTF in camp to throw footballs around is news all by itself.

JJ McCarthy, who the Vikings selected 10th overall in the first round of April’s NFL draft, threw some passes, threw an interception and later ran some gassers because he lost a bet to the new defenders in camp. JJ McCarthy later talked with the media and showed a poise and calmness beyond his years, even garnering praise from his head coach Kevin O’Connell for his attitude, which included McCarthy being out on the field before anyone else working through plays he had just learned. That’s certainly a good sign for this young player who is reportedly a “process guy” willing to put in the work.

There were a number of other players on the field, many of which whose names won’t be as familiar to the average fan. But Mark Craig, one half of the Vikings Territory Breakdown podcast, was on hand to watch all the new Vikings. Craig, Vikings writer and NFL insider from the Star Tribune and startribune.com, joins VT and purplePTSD.com senior writer to break it all down for you. Tune in and check it out.
