The Minnesota Vikings’ regular season gets underway in 17 days, a showdown in New Jersey with the New York Giants.

Vikings Sign 4 New Players in 2 Days

But before that, the franchise has been busy with roster maintenance, with the league’s cutdown deadline around the bend on Tuesday.

Since the start of Wednesday, the Vikings have added these four players.

1. Matthew Cindric (G/C)

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports.

Cindric re-signed with the purple team on Wednesday after about three months away. The Vikings found him via undrafted free agency in April but dropped him when Dalton Risner returned in late May. Now, he’s back.

CalBears.com published some factoids about Cindric earlier this year when he initially signed with the Vikings: “Broke the five-second mark in the 40-yard dash (4.99), which would have been faster than all but four offensive linemen at the 2024 NFL Combine and also had 23 bench press reps at Cal’s 2024 Pro Day.”

Cindric is from Sammamish, Washington, and turned 25 earlier this month. If he misses the cut next week, he could earn a spot on the 2024 practice squad. Minnesota is on deck to start Blake Brandel, Garrett Bradbury, and Ed Ingram on its line’s interior, so Cindric is vying for a reservist job against the aforementioned Risner, Dan Feeney, and Michael Jurgens.

2. Chuck Filiaga (OL)

Filiaga spent four years at the University of Michigan — a teammate of J.J. McCarthy — and 2022 with the University of Minnesota. He landed with the Green Bay Packers via undrafted free agency 16 months ago and later joined the UFL’s San Antonio Brahmas, where Wade Phillips was the head coach. Wade Phillips’ son, Wes, is the Vikings’ offensive coordinator.

Like Cindric, Filiaga is competing for a backup offensive line spot.

3. Mohamed Ibrahim (RB)

Ibrahim went undrafted in April 2023, latching onto the Lions’ 90-man roster from the UDFA wire last offseason. He was quite prolific at the University of Minnesota, though, tallying 4,668 rushing yards on 867 attempts (a 5.4 yards per carry average) with 53 touchdowns. Ibrahim appeared in 41 career games as a Gopher. But Ibrahim departed the Lions at the end of training camp and the preseason. He returned to Detroit, however, in October for a practice squad assignment.

With the former Gopher, this is Minnesota’s RB room:

  • Aaron Jones
  • Ty Chandler
  • Kene Nwangwu
  • Myles Gaskin
  • DeWayne McBride
  • Mohamed Ibrahim

4. Neal Johnson (TE)

Kiyoshi Mio-USA TODAY Sports.

Johnson played five seasons at the University of Louisiana, banking 101 catches for 1,196 yards and 11 touchdowns. He was not drafted in April, instead joining the Los Angeles Rams via undrafted free agency. He didn’t stay in Los Angeles long, becoming a New York Jet for about a week and now linking with the Vikings.

General manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah claimed him off waivers and, like the other men on this list, probably contend for practice squad duties.

This is the updated TE section of the depth chart:

  • T.J. Hockenson
  • Josh Oliver
  • Johnny Mundt
  • Nick Muse
  • N’Keal Harry
  • Robert Tonyan
  • Trey Knox
  • Sammis Reyes
  • Neal Johnson
