Vikings Schedule Rumors: What We’re Hearing the Day Before
The Minnesota Vikings and 31 NFL teams will learn the 2024 schedule on Wednesday night, as the NFL has made the release a primetime event in the last couple of years.
Vikings Schedule Rumors: What We’re Hearing the Day Before
Accordingly, VikingsTerritory is hearing here-and-there rumors about Minnesota’s 2024 docket, with the extreme caveat that rumors are rumors.
For the ironclad items, though, Minnesota will for sure play these teams at home:
(not in order until Wednesday)
- Arizona Cardinals
- Atlanta Falcons
- Chicago Bears
- Detroit Lions
- Green Bay Packers
- Houston Texans
- Indianapolis Colts
- New York Jets
- San Francisco 49ers
And the road contests:
(not in order until Wednesday)
- Chicago Bears
- Detroit Lions
- Green Bay Packers
- Jacksonville Jaguars
- Los Angeles Rams
- New York Giants
- Seattle Seahawks
- Tennessee Titans
Also remember — one of the home games will occur in London.
Without further ado, these are the three current rumors in the Vikings’ schedule release orbit.
1. Rumor: Week 1 Likely on the Road
Since the start of 2017 — so, seven years ago — no team has played more Week 1 home games than the Vikings. It’s probably time to even the score. One source tells VikingsTerritory that Week 1 will be on the road for Minnesota, a rumor that checks out because 2022 and 2023 offered showdowns out of the gate at U.S. Bank Stadium.
Minnesota has another drought, too. It hasn’t played a Week 1 division game on the road since 2013. Perhaps it’s time to hit the Detroit Lions or Green Bay Packers on their turf right away.
2. Rumor: CHI on Thursday Night Football Midseason
Generally speaking, this one isn’t too groundbreaking: the Vikings usually play the Bears in primetime in a given season. Yet, the rumor is noteworthy because of the Thursday Night Football nugget. And, yes, Minnesota typically ends up at Chicago in primetime, so this contest could be midseason Thursday Night Football on the road at Soldier Field.
Somehow, Minnesota has won three consecutive Monday Night Football games at Soldier Field.
3. Rumor: Versus Falcons on Monday Night Football
(Week Unknown)
Some have floated this theory as a Week 1 outcome for Minnesota — forcing Kirk Cousins to return home right away — but the NFL smacked that down this week with the announcement of the New York Jets and San Francisco 49ers on Week 1 Monday Night Football. It won’t be Cousins versus his old team in Week 1, at least not in primetime.
A source tells VikingsTerritory, however, that when Minnesota and Atlanta lock horns this season, the showdown will indeed be played on Monday Night Football.
That would mean Cousins would return to U.S. Bank Stadium under the lights of primetime. That last time Cousins was there with those parameters, this happened:
