A weekend publication from VikingsTerritory, we present to you: the Vikings Nopedy Nopes of the week.
Vikings Nopedy Nopes: Trading the Vikings Head Coach, Ed Ingram, Sunday’s Revenge Game
The nopedy nopes are weekly Minnesota Vikings-themed items that we’re not buying. It’s a spin-off of our rumor mill, and we hope you enjoy. Here is the 38th batch of Vikings nopedy nopes in the series’ history.
The Nopedy Nope: Minnesota should explore a head coach trade involving Kevin O’Connell to the Chicago Bears.
The Vikings should trade O’Connell to the Chicago Bears — that’s the latest and greatest from ESPN’s Kalyn Kahler, a senior NFL writer for the sports media giant. Put plainly, she thinks the Bears should inquire with the Vikings and trade for O’Connell.
Kahler tweeted Monday, “This is going to sound crazy, but the Bears need to think crazy. They should trade for Kevin O’Connell. Caleb and KOC love each other. I don’t know if the Vikings would ever part with him, but Chicago should at least try. Added bonus: I believe his agent is Trace Armstrong.”
There’s basically a zero chance of that happening, further solidifying the popular internet slogan, “There’s a take for everything.”
This rumor is utterly ridiculous.
Verdict: Nopedy nope.
The Nopedy Nope: Ed Ingram was deactivated last weekend, meaning he’s in the coaching staff’s doghouse. His career in purple is over.
Ingram was deactivated for last Sunday’s game against the Cardinals, and many speculated he was in the dog house.
ESPN’s Kevin Seifert tweeted before Vikings-Cardinals, “Vikings Week 13 inactives: TE Josh Oliver, S Jay Ward, CB Dwight McGlothern, DL Levi Drake Rodriguez, OL Michael Jurgens, G Ed Ingram. Brett Rypien is the emergency QB. OL Dan Feeney and OL Walter Rouse are both active today. 👀”
The reality? Ingram is not on the verge of a roster cut, nor did anything nefarious emerge to explain his inactive status. Put simply, the Vikings just needed offensive tackle depth in Week 13 because Cam Robinson spent the whole week on the injury report.
Star Tribune’s Ben Goessling tweeted, “Kevin O’Connell said the Vikings deactivated Ed Ingram today so they could get another tackle on the gameday roster with Cam Robinson coming off a foot injury.”
O’Connell subsequently said about Robinson’s gutsy performance, “Cam did a hell of a job working through that foot, and he was going to give it a go, but we felt pretty stressed in Chicago only having one tackle up beyond Cam.”
Ingram may not be a starter anymore, but he’s not about to be released. Minnesota needed OT depth last weekend.
Verdict: Nopedy nope.
The Nopedy Nope: Minnesota is gearing up for a big revenge game on Sunday versus Kirk Cousins, who led the club for six seasons.
Cousins’ new team, the Atlanta Falcons, travel to the Twin Cities for a date with the Vikings, a club Cousins led for six seasons.
On the surface, the contest might feel like a “revenge” game between the two franchises — Cousins’ former team and his new squad. The problem with that theory? Vikings players aren’t sizing it up that way.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero asked wide receiver Justin Jefferson if he had a message for Cousins ahead of the signal-caller’s return to Minneapolis. Jefferson basically said, “Nope.”
“Not all all. We are focused on us. We are not focused on any single person or anybody that comes into the building. We’re just worrying about us, focusing on what we got to do to make us better,” Jefferson said Sunday.
It’s probably a revenge game for Cousins and maybe for fans. But Jefferson disagrees.
Verdict: Nopedy nope.
