This year might do the trick.

Vikings Legend Chuck Foreman Is One Step Closer to the Hall of Fame

That’s the word on Minnesota Vikings legend Chuck Foreman this week after the Hall of Fame added a Seniors Screening Committee this year, and Foreman advanced to Round 2 of the selection process.

Vikings great Jim Marshall is also eligible, so onlookers will hope one or both get the nod. The Committee should render a verdict on Foreman, Marshall, and 58 others within the next couple of months.

Foreman tweeted Wednesday, “Was named on the initial Senior NFL player nominees list for the HOF today! There is a whole new process this year and next step is the Seniors Screening Committee selecting 50 players. If you haven’t seen the video we created on my case for induction in the HOF see it here.”

The ex-Viking is also incredibly active in the Vikings community to this day. He even commended the club for its 4-0 start this season and win over the Green Bay Packers last weekend: “Really good game in the first half yesterday against Green Bay. Turnovers were the story in the second half and made it rough on us. But all in all we won and are 4-0 now!”

Foreman played seven seasons for the Vikings, from 1973 to 1979, and is the franchise’s fourth-leading rusher with 5,887 yards. The five-time Pro Bowler ranks second in Vikings history per rushing touchdowns and won Offensive Rookie of the Year in 1973. He also has these unique accolades to bolster his Hall of Fame case:

  • 5-Time All-Pro
  • 5-Time Pro Bowler
  • 1975 NFC Offensive Player of the Year
  • NFL Receptions Leader 1975
  • Vikings Ring of Honor

Sports Legends USA recently highlighted the Hall of Fame case for Foreman. “Chuck Foreman revolutionized the role of the running back during his career with the Minnesota Vikings from 1973-1980. As one of the NFL’s first true dual-threats, Foreman excelled not only as a rusher but as a receiver and blocker, changing the game for future generations,” it wrote amid the selection process. “With 5 Pro Bowl selections, over 9,000 total yards, and nearly 110 yards per game during his prime, Chuck Foreman stands out as one of the greatest multi-purpose backs in football history.”

“Chuck Foreman deserves to be enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Through historic plays, record-breaking stats, and contributions to three Super Bowl teams, Foreman’s impact on the game goes beyond the numbers — he redefined what it meant to be a running back in the NFL.”

Other running backs who made it to the field of 60? Alan Ameche, Ottis Anderson, Larry Brown, Roger Craig, Cecil Isbell, and Paul “Tank” Younger.

The 2025 HOF class will be enshrined in Canton next August.
