The Prediction for Vikings at Giants — from Fans
The fans have spoken.
The Vikings finished 7-10 last year after a oodles of quarterback injuries ravaged Kevin O’Connell’s second season as head coach. Then, Kirk Cousins dipped to the Atlanta Falcons this offseason. It’s a new era for the purple team, featuring Sam Darnold at QB1 and rookie passer J.J. McCarthy tentatively scheduled to debut next season after tearing his meniscus four weeks ago.
This weekend, the Giants host the Vikings, a team that, per oddsmakers, shares the same 6.5-win forecast in 2024 as Minnesota.
Vikings fans predict the Vikings will win their first game of the season.
Fans mainly chose the Vikings, evidently confident the season will begin with some zeal, even if no one knows how Darnold will perform
Here’s how the fan panel sees the score for Week 1:
Alexis: Giants Win, 23-18
Bruce Johnson: Giants Win, 16-13
Chris: Giants Win, 20-14
Christina: Vikings Win, 20-17
Ivan, Czar of Bohunks: Vikings Win, 30-21
Keat_on: Vikings Win, 24-19
PurpleVikodin: Vikings Win, 24-17
RedNPurple: Vikings Win, 26-10
SkolSister: Vikings Win, 24-17
Skol Tom: Vikings Win, 21-17
Steve Berglund: Vikings Win, 24-17
Tadd: Vikings Win, 20-13
Mathematically en masse, fans predict the Vikings will top the Giants by a score of 21-17.
Skol Tom defended his Vikings win prediction: “Vikings open up the season with a victory. KOC and Flores have been in the lab all offseason drawing up a game plan to open the season strongly with a statement after the loss to the Giants in ’22. The loss of McCarthy doesn’t have too much of an impact on the plan for the start of the season, at least since it was presumed that Darnold was the starter from the jump.”
He added, “Jefferson seems by all accounts to be focused on getting revenge on the Giants in the Vikings season opener, so as an extra prediction, Jets goes for 153 yards and a TD on 8 receptions.”
Keat_on noted, “The Vikings’ defense will win this game. Crucial takeaways, pivotal TFLs, and maybe a blocked punt will determine the outcome. The offense will likely still be shaky and need to get a rhythm.”
The Vikings are favored to prevail by 1.5 points against the Giants, and New York has lost four of its last five matchups against Minnesota. The only win of the last five occurred in the 2022 postseason.
The Vikings are 2-5 (.286) in Week 1 road games since the start of 2010.
