Report: Jordan Addison’s Injury Status Revealed
The hits keep on comin’ for the 2024 Minnesota Vikings. But Jordan Addison appears to have avoided the unthinkable.
Report: Jordan Addison’s Injury Status Revealed
Minnesota embarked on joint practices with the Cleveland Browns on Wednesday, and the second-year WR promptly fell injured.
The Athletic‘s Alec Lewis tweeted, “Vikings WR Jordan Addison just went down. Leapt for a contested ball. He’s hobbling off with help of trainers.”
Sources tell VikingsTerritory that Addison’s injury is “minor” and won’t devolve into season-ending. To be clear — the source is not head coach Kevin O’Connell’s reassurances.
Meanwhile, the Addison ordeal wasn’t even the worst news of the day — soon-to-be franchise quarterback J.J. McCarthy was placed on injured reserve with a torn meniscus and will miss his entire rookie season. The Vikings have rapidly succumbed to a summer from hell.
In the hours after Addison’s injury, conflicting reports emerged about his prognosis. Star Tribune‘s Ben Goessling tweeted, “Jordan Addison was on crutches with his left foot in a walking boot after the Vikings’ practice in Cleveland today, I’m told.”
However, in the same tweet, Goessling noted, “Kevin O’Connell said Addison’s ankle injury didn’t appear to be serious. Addison won’t practice Thursday; we’ll see how long he needs to recover.”
Vikings fans — as expected — fear the bad-bad news because of O’Connell’s recent track record. When the aforementioned McCarthy missed Monday’s Night Practice at TCO Performance Center, the young skipper told onlookers he didn’t believe the injury was too serious. Less than two days later, McCarthy hit the shelf for all of 2024.
Therefore, regarding Addison’s true status, it’s a waiting game. But folks shouldn’t fear the worst, even if they’re reeling from the horrid McCarthy bombshell.
The Vikings drafted Jordan Addison 16 months ago, and he swiftly fired off a memorable rookie season by establishing instant credibility as a transferrable college-to-pro receiver in the NFL. Addison banked 70 receptions, 911 receiving yards, and 10 touchdowns in 2023. In July, however, California Highway Patrol arrested Addison for suspicion of DUI, a matter he’s scheduled to address in court on October 7th. If convicted, he’ll likely face a suspension, probably in the neighborhood of three games.
Minnesota has navigated an awful summer in addition to Addison and McCarthy injuries. Cornerback Khyree Jackson tragically passed away in a Maryland car accident on July 6th. Second-year corner Mekhi Blackmon tore his ACL at the start of training camp. Tight end T.J. Hockenson and special teams savant NaJee Thompson are on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. And another cornerback, Shaquill Griffin, injured his hamstring a few weeks ago.
The tribulation can stop at any time.
