Purple Rumor Mill: The J.J. McCarthy Injury Update, Jordan Addison’s Legal Stuff, Vikings Rookie CB
VikingsTerritory’s Purple Rumor Mill is a two-day chronicle each week. All the week’s rumors are lassoed and plopped in two spots — articles on Saturday and Sunday — for review. Today is the December 8th edition.
Purple Rumor Mill: The J.J. McCarthy Injury Update, Jordan Addison’s Legal Stuff, Vikings Rookie CB
Remember — rumors are rumors. What you read on weekends in these pieces is what the world is talking about pertaining to the Vikings, not necessarily items that will come to fruition.
Here’s the second batch of the week. Yesterday’s can be read here.
Rumor: J.J. McCarthy’s meniscus recovery is precisely on schedule.
According to McCarthy, his knee is healing well, and his original timetable — which is undisturbed — will place him firmly available for Vikings operations when the 2025 offseason rolls around.
McCarthy joined former NFL tight end Jake Butt on Butt’s podcast this week and said: “The knee is doing fantastic. It’s on the road that they told me it was going to be on, which is up and down, upside down, sideways, backwards, all the way around.”
He also told Butt, “So, PRP injection, we got that done. Going in there and having to get cut open wasn’t great, but it’s alright because it’s all a part of the process, and I’m in a good spot right now.”
McCarthy had an injection last month as part of his recovery process, and some flipped out because they perceived it as some kind of emergency, unexpected surgery. In reality, the rookie had the injection, which is not uncommon for a meniscus recovery.
The man is precisely on schedule.
Rumor: Jordan Addison’s next legal step for last July’s DUI in California is in January.
KARE11’s Reggie Wilson tweeted this week, “Vikings WR Jordan Addison pleaded not guilty to two misdemeanor DUI charges stemming from the incident in LA in July. The next court date scheduled for January 9th.”
California Highway Patrol arrested Addison in July for driving under the influence, his second legal infraction since joining the Vikings in the 2023 NFL Draft. The arrest occurred less than a week after Addison’s teammate, Khyree Jackson, died in a tragic car accident that might have involved alcohol consumption by the other motorist.
Addison’s original court date was scheduled for October — the day after the Vikings’ win over the New York Jets in London — but was moved to December 3rd.
He’s probably looking at a three-game suspension.
Rumor: Rookie corner Dwight McGlothern will see action with Stephon Gilmore out this weekend.
Fabian Moreau could get the start with Stephon Gilmore on the shelf this weekend, but don’t rule out McGlothern for Week 14 action. Head coach Kevin O’Connell talked about Nudie — that’s McGlothern’s nickname — this week: “We’ve got ‘Nudie’ on the practice squad, or I should say Dwight McGlothern. But we’ve got him at any point in time, that we’ve had clearly we have a lot of confidence in.”
That sounds like the pathway to some playing time for the undrafted free agent.
