Purple Rumor Mill: Jordan Addison’s Suspension, a Player to Be Benched, Ex-Vikings Coach

By Dustin Baker

VikingsTerritory’s Purple Rumor Mill is a two-day chronicle each week. All the week’s rumors are lassoed and plopped in two spots — articles on Saturday and Sunday — for review. Today is the October 13th edition.

Purple Rumor Mill: Jordan Addison’s Suspension, a Player to Be Benched, Ex-Vikings Coach

Remember — rumors are rumors. What you read on weekends in these pieces is what the world is talking about pertaining to the Vikings, not necessarily items that will come to fruition.

Here’s the second batch of the week. Yesterday’s can be read here.

Rumor: Jordan Addison’s would-be suspension will likely affect the 2025 season, not 2024.

According to ESPN’s Kevin Seifert, Addison’s court date is now December 3rd, rescheduled from October 7. “The arraignment and plea hearing for Vikings WR Jordan Addison, stemming from two misdemeanor charges in July for DUI, is now scheduled for Dec. 3, according to Superior Court of California online records. Had been scheduled for Monday,” Seifert tweeted Monday night.

In all likelihood, any decision stemming from December 3rd will be set for the offseason, establishing a would-be Addison suspension for the 2025 season.

Most onlookers expect Addison to serve a three-game suspension if convicted or he pleads guilty.

His suspension is a matter that Vikings fans and the team’s front office will probably contemplate during the 2025 offseason. For better or worse.

Rumor: Ed Ingram could be benched when Dalton Risner is healthy.

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports.

Minnesota spent a 2nd-Round pick on Ingram during the now-infamous 2022 NFL Draft, and entering Year No. 3 this season, many hoped Ingram would take the next step as long-term starting right guard. On the whole, Minnesota’s offensive line has not struggled, but Ingram’s so-far performance in 2024 lags behind his teammates and league peers.

So, if Ingram were benched — then what? Well, the solution is quite straightforward, and his name is Dalton Risner.

Risner should be healed from injury soon, and Ingram ranks 60th of 69 qualifying guards per Pro Football Focus right now. It’s setting the stage, in theory, for a midseason switcharoo on the offensive line.

Rumor: Former Vikings OC Kevin Stefanski is on the hot seat.

These are live odds for the next head coach fired in the NFL:

  • Doug Pederson = +125
  • Nick Sirianni = +400
  • Kevin Stefanski = +600
  • Dennis Allen = +800
  • Mike McCarthy = +1000
  • Brian Daboll = +1200
  • Zac Taylor = +1200

Stefanski remains steadfast about starting embattled passer Deshaun Watson as his QB1, and if he doesn’t change his mind, Watson may cost Stefanski his job with the Cleveland Browns — even if he’s won two Coach of the Year awards since 2020.

“We’re not changing quarterbacks. We need to play better. I need to coach better,” Stefanski told reporters after the Washington Commanders spanked his team 34-13 on Sunday.

Suit yourself.
