The P/PTSD Perspective: Hockenson Decision, A Quiet Goodbye, and Za’Darius Smith

The P/PTSD Perspective: October 26th, 2024
1) Vikings Make Decision on T.J. Hockenson: In Week 7, the decision was to be cautious. After all, the Vikings were a perfect 5-0 at the time, so maybe they felt like there was a bit of margin. Week 8 brought more of the same, so look for the TE to be back for Sunday Night Football.
2) Vikings Quietly Say Goodbye to a Young Playmaker: The NFL is a tough business. Re-welcoming some players means saying goodbye to others. Don’t be surprised, though, if the receiver finds his way onto the field before the end of the season. He can make plays and injuries do happen.
3) Za’Darius Smith Teases NFC North Return: No doubt, Mr. Smith is a tremendous edge rusher. As a Viking, Smith was very disruptive, especially in the opening half of the the season. The NFL trade deadline takes place on November 5th, so let’s see if anything happens.
4) Vikings Beef Up Defense with a New Add at Linebacker: In the end, it’s a decision to shore up the depth and to give the team another option on special teams. The depth linebacker would still need a decent bit to happen before seeing game action. In a perfect world, Blake Cashman will get back soon so that the linebacker hierarchy is in a better spot.
5) The Easy-to-Fix Vikings Problem from Week 7: A simple matter of improving the personnel. Josh Oliver and Johnny Mundt are better suited for being the TE2 and TE3. Reinserting Mr. Hockenson into that TE1 job will have a domino effect that helps the position more broadly.
