What Minnesota Vikings Fans Need to Know Heading into Week 3 vs. Houston Texans
The Minnesota Vikings have been one of the biggest surprises in the NFL through the first two weeks of the season.
A 2-0 start has landed Minnesota atop the NFC North division and as one of the nine remaining undefeated NFL teams. Now, the Vikings have a big test against a fellow undefeated Houston Texans squad. Here is what Vikings fans need to know heading into that Week 3 matchup.
How to Watch this Week’s Minnesota Vikings Game
The Vikings and Texans will kick off at U.S. Bank Stadium on Sunday, September 22nd at 12 PM Central. The game will be broadcast on CBS for those viewing in the Twin Cities area and can be streamed on NFL+ in the NFL app as well as NFL Sunday Ticket on YouTubeTV.
Texans vs. Vikings History
The Vikings and Texans have met only five times in the histories of the two franchises with the most recent game coming during the 2020 season. The Vikings are 5-0 in the all-time series, and they won that 2020 matchup by a score of 31-23 behind 130 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns from Dalvin Cook.
Vikings Spotlight Player: WR Jalen Nailor
The Vikings may be facing the reality that Jordan Addison will miss a second consecutive game when they host a tough Texans secondary that has allowed just 333 passing yards so far this season. Justin Jefferson status is also a bit in question at this point in the week following his leg contusion suffered in Week 2.
Because of this, Jalen Nailor could be in line for a big role in Week 3 against Houston. The third-year receiver has exceeded expectations to this point in the year, but the spotlight will be on him this weekend as Minnesota hopes to earn their third straight win.
Texans Spotlight Player: RB Cam Akers
The Texans offense has looked dynamic so far this season, and a major reason for that has been the presence of Joe Mixon at the running back position. However, Mixon was injured last week because of a hip drop tackle, and he may be forced to sit out this weekend’s game against the Vikings.
If that does happen, former Vikings RB Cam Akers would be in line for an increased workload against his old team. So far this season, Akers has put together seven carries for 32 yards.
