Remember the day three weeks ago when the Minnesota Vikings ruled out rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy for all of the 2024 season — and wide receiver Jordan Addison was carted out of practice with a disheartening injury soon after?

Jordan Addison’s Injury Status Updated

It was an awful one, but the latter section of that terrible day might be on its way to redemption. The Vikings updated Addison’s injury status on Wednesday, and the club “feels good” about the 22-year-old wideout’s prognosis for Sunday.

Head coach Kevin O’Connell addressed Addison’s status for Week 1 at the New York Giants while the team released its first official injury report of 2024. “He’s doing better. He was limited on Monday and moved around quite well,” O’Connell opined. “He’ll do a little more today, and then we’d like to kind progress him, hopefully, to full by the end of the week. I think Jordan’s in a good spot, and I feel pretty good about him making the game.”

Minnesota will need Addison in the lineup this weekend, especially with Pro Bowl tight end T.J. Hockenson on the shelf. Hockenson can return Week 5 at the earliest, and in the meantime, Justin Jefferson, Addison, Jalen Nailor, tight ends Josh Oliver, Johnny Mundt, and Nick Muse will serve as new quarterback Sam Darnold’s pass catchers.

Without Addison, Minnesota would rely on a top-heavy WR corp, including Jefferson, Nailor, Brandon Powell, Trishton Jackson, and Trent Sherfield. It’s also worth noting that Nailor — no stranger to injuries — is dealing with a minor ailment.

The Vikings drafted Jordan Addison 16 months ago, and he swiftly fired off a memorable rookie season by establishing instant credibility as a transferrable college-to-pro receiver in the NFL. Addison banked 70 receptions, 911 receiving yards, and 10 touchdowns in 2023. In July, however, California Highway Patrol arrested Addison for suspicion of DUI, a matter he’s scheduled to address in court on October 7th. If convicted, he’ll likely face a suspension, probably in the neighborhood of three games.

Minnesota navigated an awful summer in addition to Addison and McCarthy injuries. Cornerback Khyree Jackson tragically passed away in a Maryland car accident on July 6th. Second-year corner Mekhi Blackmon tore his ACL at the start of training camp.

Addison in the opening day lineup would be a breath of fresh air, which seems on track, according to the coaching staff.

The young playmaker was officially listed as “limited” in practice, and his status will be updated to probable, questionable, doubtful, or out on Friday.
