That’s right — Netflix’s Receiver is just around the bend, scheduled to hit streaming airwaves on Wednesday, also known as 36 hours from the time of this article’s publication.

The Vikings were featured last year, too, in Quarterback, which kicked off Netflix’s NFL docuseries dabbling. Cousins doesn’t play for Minnesota anymore — he left for the Atlanta Falcons in March — but Quarterback totally changed the court of public opinion on the veteran passer. Folks learned of Cousins’ dedication, sincerity, and likable persona from the series. Before Quarterback, Cousins was also labeled as a “garbage time” quarterback or “dink and dunker,” erroneous monikers that fell by the wayside after the Netflix programming.

This go-round, Netflix will chronicle pass-catchers with Jefferson, Davante Adams, Deebo Samuel, and Amon-Ra St. Brown. San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle even found his way into the lineup. The show will mimic Quarterback and follow each player through the 2023 campaign.

Netflix’s Roxanne Fequiere wrote about the new series last month, “While NFL quarterbacks may be more likely to be named MVP or become household names, the perfect Hail Mary pass is meaningless without someone there to catch it. Those athletes — the precise, pristine pass catchers — take center stage in Receiver, the new eight-episode docuseries that follows five athletes throughout their 2023 season, navigating tremendous pressures both on and off the field.”

Jefferson missed seven games in 2023 due to a hamstring injury while still tabulating over 1,000 yards, so viewers will get a front-row seat to the odyssey of his recovery, his performance, and Minnesota’s regular season on the whole.

NFL Films producer Joe Zucco told Netflix in June, “We were thrilled last summer to see audiences all over the world diving into the lives of NFL quarterbacks. We believe the extraordinary skills, dedication, and passion of the NFL’s great wide receivers — and one tight end — will make a perfect follow-up.”

Unlike series’ on Hulu or Max, for example, fans won’t have to wait a week between episodes. All eight episodes — about 45 minutes each — will be dropped into the Netflix hopper on Wednesday. That’s roughly eight hours of NFL content, with Jefferson virtually guaranteed to be showcased to the utmost.

It is unclear if Netflix is plotting a 2025 series, but for now, notable Vikings have been featured in back-to-back years.
