4 Last Minute Vikings Trade Rumors
The Minnesota Vikings don’t have too much 2025 draft capital to swing more trades, with the NFL’s deadline just hours away.
4 Last Minute Vikings Trade Rumors
In theory, though, general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah could dip his palms into the 2026 basket if he saw fit for an impact player — or even ponder the swap of next year’s 1st-Round asset.
Minnesota owns a 6-2 record at the moment, totally in the driver’s seat to reach the postseason, especially after taking down the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday Night Football.
All trades must be completed by 3:00 p.m. CST on Tuesday, and these are the last-minute Vikings-themed trade rumors.
1. Linebacker Brian Asamoah on the Block
This rumor just makes too much sense.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler tucked Asamoah’s name into a trade speculation article last week with a few others and explained, “Veteran Buffalo safety Mike Edwards is available and would like to go somewhere he can play (he has been a steady inactive). Washington’s Darrick Forrest is in a similar situation, a former starter who’s out of the rotation and could need a fresh start elsewhere. Vikings linebacker Brian Asamoah II, a former third-rounder who hasn’t made an impact in Brian Flores’ defense, is a trade candidate, too.”
Sending Asamoah elsewhere for a fresh start makes all the sense in the world for a couple of reasons. First, to reiterate, he doesn’t play on defense. The Vikings rotate off-ball linebackers Blake Cashman, Kamu Grugier-Hill, and Ivan Pace Jr. on Sundays, leaving Asamoah on the sidelines.
And last year, when former Minnesota LB Jordan Hicks battled compartment syndrome and missed a month, Minnesota did everything in its power not to get Asamoah on the field, subbing in Troy Dye and signing Anthony Barr.
Minnesota won’t fetch much for Asamoah, but every little bit helps when restocking the 2025 piggybank. Always remember that Adofo-Mensah gave up a lot for outside linebacker Dallas Turner, and the 2025 draft capital cabinet is severely depleted.
2. Vikings Could Acquire Future Hall of Fame DT Calais Campbell
This one could’ve been so much easier: Campbell lived on the free-agent market for most of the spring and summer before the Miami Dolphins plucked him for 2024 duty. Minnesota had the opportunity to sign Campbell on an ordinary ‘ol June or July day. Nope.
Bleacher Report threw Campbell-to-Vikings in an article this week and wrote, “The Vikings are getting healthier and don’t have many holes on the roster, but the defense could use some interior pass-rush help. Meanwhile, the Dolphins likely aren’t making the playoffs this season, so it would make sense for them to trade Campbell, who is only on a one-year deal, for some draft capital.”
Campbell is 38 — yes, that old but still that dominant at his craft — so he won’t cost much via trade. He’d represent an immediate and significant upgrade to current Vikings DT Jerry Tillery.
3. Minnesota Could Offload Veteran Pass Rusher Patrick Jones II
Contending teams seek pass-rush help at every trade deadline, and this year is no different.
The Chiefs already added Josh Uche from the New England Patriots, and former Viking Za’Darius Smith became a Detroit Lion earlier Tuesday morning.
Minnesota is in the process of handing rookie EDGE Dallas Turner more snaps, and truth be told, it doesn’t really “need” Patrick Jones II anymore. That’s what Turner is for. Adofo-Mensah could claw back a 6th- or 7th-Rounder for Jones II, who will be a free agent in about four months.
4. Don’t Forget Adam Thielen
The case for Adam Thielen:
- The Panthers are unabashedly jettisoning old players in cornerback Troy Hill and semi-hot commodities (WR Diontae Johnson to the Baltimore Ravens).
- The Vikings + Thielen had no bad blood when he departed in 2023 free agency. It’s just that his $20 million cap hit that season was too expensive.
- Thielen is 34 and deserves to finish the season on a playoff team.
- Minnesota, at 6-2, is very vividly on track for the postseason.
- The Vikings need a dependable, experienced WR3.
- Thielen is a dependable, experienced WR3.
- Bring him home for a final hurrah.
Thielen’s name is also verifiably in the NFL trade rumor mill. It wouldn’t be weird one bit for Minnesota to flip a 7th-Rounder to Carolina for its hometown product.
