It wouldn’t be a Minnesota Vikings offseason without Kirk Cousins dominating the headlines.

The 35-year-old is scheduled to hit free agency in two weeks, and if the Vikings’ front office doesn’t finalize an extension, he’ll hit the NFL’s marketplace for the first time in six years.

Well, the last 24 hours have been rough and tumble for Cousins-themed updates. One was even completely out of left field.

These are the updates listed in chronological order.

He’s Moving and Throwing

Cousins tore his Achilles last October at Lambeau Field, and about four weeks later, Minnesota’s season splattered into irrelevance. Joshua Dobbs kept the enterprise afloat for two games, but thereafter, the Vikings finished 1-5 and missed the playoffs.

On Monday, Cousins posted this update to social media, video of himself moving and throwing on a tennis court.

He’s apparently well on the road to a full recovery, and whichever team employs him in 2024 should expect the passer to be ready by Week 1. In fact, no hiccups whatsoever have accompanied his return to health, and Aaron Rodgers proved a few months ago that Achilles injuries aren’t as devastating as they were 20-30 years ago. That’s the theory, anyway.

The Vikings Want Him Back — at the Right Price

General manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah took the podium at the NFL Combine on Tuesday and was predictably asked about Cousins’ future. It seems like the Vikings want Cousins back at a reasonable price.

“Had a great conversation with him a few days ago. At the end of the day, it’s we have our interests, he has his, and we get to the table and see if we can figure out a creative solution and how to meet in the middle. What we do know is we have a really great quarterback, a great leader, and somebody that we think we can win the ultimate prize with, and so that’s ultimately what I focus on, and that’s where we’re at right now,” Adofo-Mensah told reporters.

Head coach Kevin O’Connell talked about Cousins, too, on Tuesday. “I think Kirk wants to be a Viking. He knows we want him to be a Viking. Hopefully, we can work to get there,” he told KFAN’s Paul Allen moments before taking the podium at the Combine.

The Grill

Nobody ever thought Cousins, the consummate family man, would ever turn this icy. Making good on a running joke dating back to “Icy Kirk” and “Kirko Chainz” from the 2022 season, Cousins evidently had a custom-made grill created for his mouth.

Yes, one of those.

From Cousins’ Instagram, the pictures flowed on social media:

So, with any luck, this could be the Vikings QB1 in September:
