You’re Gonna Love One National Vikings-49ers Prediction
Eleven months ago, the Minnesota Vikings, led by Kirk Cousins and Jordan Addison, stunned the mighty San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football and began to hint at a season turnaround after starting 1-4.
You’re Gonna Love One National Vikings-49ers Prediction
Fast forward to Week 2 of 2024, and those same Vikings host the 49ers again, expected to lose by six points.
But don’t tell that to CBS Sports‘ Pete Prisco.
Prisco revealed his Week 2 picks on Wednesday, one day before the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills kick off the week on Thursday Night Football. And per his predictions, Minnesota will shock San Francisco with a 22-21 upset.
“Both of these teams impressed in their Week 1 victories. The 49ers pushed around a good Jets defense without Christian McCaffrey. This Minnesota defense impressed against New York and I think they will play well here,” Prisco wrote while forecasting the upset.
The 49ers reached the Super Bowl last year before losing to the dynastic Kansas City Chiefs and opened 2024 rather hot by stomping Aaron Rodgers’ New York Jets on Monday Night Football. They’re the real deal.
Prisco added, “This is close. Real close, but give it to the Vikings in an upset.”
In 2023, Minnesota unexpectedly chipped off San Francisco under the bright lights of primetime, mainly because of wide receiver Jordan Addison’s theatrics. Then-quarterback Kirk Cousins delivered a curious end-of-half pass to Addison that appeared to be an interception, but the rookie instead ripped the ball away from the defender and took the ball to the endzone for six points. The 49ers never really recovered.
Inconveniently, Addison is nursing an ankle injury this season and may be unable to partake in Sunday afternoon’s festivities. The Vikings’ coaching staff has hinted since Sunday that Addison may not be a full-go in Week 2, meaning a WR2 pivot to speedy Jalen Nailor could be on the menu.
For San Francisco, star running back Christian McCaffrey is not expected to suit up, though the team did claim he’d probably play in Week 1 — and then he didn’t. Fantasy football enthusiasts can tell you all about it. In his stead, substitute Jordan Mason excelled, banking 152 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown. The 49ers’ offense didn’t miss a beat.
Prisco also predicted a mini-upset by the New England Patriots over the Seattle Seahawks.
The 49ers haven’t won in Minneapolis in 32 years and have lost seven consecutive games at the Metrodome and U.S. Bank Stadium.
