Young Viking Sees His Stint with the Team Come to an Unceremonious End

The Minnesota Vikings 2022 draft class is looking like one of the bigger blemishes on general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah’s resume.

That blemish grew a little bigger as one of the young Vikings from that draft class saw his stint in Minnesota come to a very unceremonious end as Minnesota opted to trade CB Andrew Booth Jr. on Friday.

The Athletic‘s Alec Lewis tweeted, “The Vikings have acquired CB Nahshon Wright via trade from the Cowboys in exchange for Andrew Booth, per sources. Trade is pending physicals.”

Booth was selected by the Vikings with the 42nd overall pick in that spring’s draft after Adofo-Mensah opted to swing a trade up the board, moving Nos. 53, 77, and 192 in exchange for that 42nd pick as well as No. 122.

Ultimately, Booth’s rookie year was largely lost to injuries, particularly after a torn meniscus officially ended his season following Minnesota’s Week 11 game against the Dallas Cowboys.

In the end, Booth ended up playing 23 games in a Vikings uniform, including two starts. He totaled 20 tackles and a single pass defensed. Not exactly a second-round level of production.

Now, the Vikings move Booth to Dallas, ironically allowing him to join former Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer, who was hired as the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator this spring.

In return, Minnesota got Nahshon Wright, who was a third-round pick by the Cowboys back in 2021. Similarly to Booth, Wright hasn’t particularly put together a strong career himself to this point, playing 32 games and making three starts over his first three NFL seasons.

Wright has totaled 37 tackles, one tackle for loss, five passes defensed, and an interception. The intriguing part about Wright is his size and athleticism as he stands at 6’4″ and ran a 4.49 40-yard dash coming out of Oregon State.

It’s an unceremonious end to the tenures of both players with the teams that drafted them, but perhaps a change of scenery can be the thing that revives their careers. Only time will tell.
