Should the Minnesota Vikings move on from Kirk Cousins, the franchise will be enthralled in a level of pandemonium that a fan base often craves. With the proverbial world as their oyster and every quarterback available as a possibility, the offseason takes on a new tone.

Few things are more exciting during an offseason in the National Football League than free agency and the NFL Draft. Both represent opportunities for a franchise to infuse talent toward a roster looking to make a leap. No position in sports is more impactful and scrutinized than that of an NFL quarterback, and right now, the Minnesota Vikings are zeroed in on getting that guy right.

After putting band-aids on the position for a while and settling into a regular cadence with veteran Kirk Cousins, the present situation is one of armchair general managers’ dreams. Not only do the Vikings have a relatively high draft pick, but they are also entering a draft flush with quarterback prospects. Beyond needing a quarterback to work as their future franchise cornerstone, multiple big-name options exist on the open market. Picking one of those players to lead the group forward is something video game aficionados dream of.

Kwesi Adofo-Mensah has multiple different paths at his disposal. Looking at veteran names like Russell Wilson or Baker Mayfield, the Vikings general manager could opt to spend money on the open market. Needing to get it right in the draft, he could mortgage the future and jump up to grab one of the top three prospects. He could also decide that the second group is worthy of Minnesota’s attention and find a way to land one of those signal callers.

It seems beyond inevitable that the Vikings will have at least one new quarterback on the roster heading into the 2024 season. With so many ways for them to get there, watching it unfold is something that fans often look at the landscape of player movement and marvel at. The Vikings haven’t been in this position for years, and even when using a first-round draft pick on Teddy Bridgewater, it didn’t come at the top and wasn’t guaranteed to be utilized in that fashion.

We’re under two months from the Vikings being on the clock at the draft and only days away from free agency getting started. With a massive amount of money expected to be spent on making the NFL’s best wide receiver happy, watching who will be tasked with getting him the football is equally as exciting.

Of course, the ultimate goal is to avoid this position for years to come and ensure whoever is starting under center represents a high probability of racking up victories. Getting the quarterback position right is a must, but being able to do that with all options on the table is exciting in and of itself.
