Vikings Have Immediate Opportunity to Prove Resolve
The Minnesota Vikings are in a spot they have yet to experience this season. Not only will they play a football game on a short week, but they will do so coming off a loss. Dropping their first game of the season to the Detroit Lions, the Los Angeles Rams provide the Vikings an immediate chance to right the ship.
Vikings Have Immediate Opportunity to Prove Resolve
Kevin O’Connell has only had to coach his team to victory thus far this year. The Minnesota Vikings entered Sunday’s contest against the Detroit Lions with a 5-0 record. Although they lost a close contest, it provides an opportunity for them to reset. There was never any reason to sensibly suggest that they would run the table.
Rather than continue trying to be perfect, the Vikings can now reset and refocus. There was a possibility that a mediocre Rams team might be the exact spot where the Vikings overlook an opponent. That shouldn’t have ever been possible with Kevin O’Connell wanting to best his former employer and good friend, Sean McVay. If there was any doubt, though, that should all be removed at this point.
Minnesota still has some players banged up, but they come into the Thursday Night Football matchup with the vast majority of their playmakers. Blake Cashman shouldn’t be expected to play on defense, but his presence was largely covered on Sunday. Brian Flores can certainly force Matthew Stafford into some mistakes, and that can present ample opportunity for Minnesota to run away and hide.
The sportsbooks have Minnesota as a slight three-point favorite against Los Angeles on Thursday. Given the road matchup, that says plenty about how they believe the Vikings have transformed as a team this season. O’Connell has his group ready to go on a weekly basis, and this is just another opportunity to prove that.
Minnesota shouldn’t seek any more losses to prepare for the next outcome, but they now have a built-in opportunity to show their resolve.
Adversity this season has only been rooted in individual game action. Nothing has carried over beyond the 60 minutes necessary to bring home a victory. That changes this week, and the group can also answer this bell.
