Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison has caused the wrong kind of headlines in two consecutive Julys.
Vikings Brass Reportedly Unhappy about Latest Incident
In 2023, Minnesota Highway Patrol popped the young wideout for driving 140 MPH in a 55 MPH zone, an infraction Addison later pleaded down to a misdemeanor. A year later, almost to the date, he was arrested for suspicion of DUI while asleep in a Rolls-Royce that blocked one lane of Los Angeles freeway traffic.
So, yes, Addison’s tomfoolery has caused the Vikings heartburn twice in 12 months. And according to KSTP’s Darren Wolfson, the team’s leaders aren’t pleased by the most recent development.
“I can promise you, there are many people with the Vikings incredibly pissed off,” Wolfson said on SKOR North‘s “Mackey & Judd Show” Tuesday.
Some Vikings fans have held out hope that Addison’s violation may have been intertwined with a grand misunderstanding, but if Wolfson has confirmed the team’s disgruntlement, well, the incident probably looks exactly how it seemed — negligent wrongdoing from Addison less than a week removed from his teammate Khyree Jackson’s death. Maryland authorities are investigating a drunk driver as the cause of that tragedy.
Vikings fans will eventually gain more clarity about Addison’s transgression. Curiously, however, the arrest report made no mention of Addison’s BAC. Blocking a lane of freeway traffic while asleep obviously needs resolution. And because of Addison’s nasty driving record, folks want to know the Addison verdict.
If he’s suspended, Vikings football turns into a modified enterprise, with a new quarterback throwing the football to Justin Jefferson, Brandon Powell, and possibly Robert Tonyan as T.J. Hockenson recovers from a torn ACL. That’s a steep departure from Jefferson, Addison, and Hockenson, especially with a non-Kirk-Cousins quarterback in the saddle.
Star Tribune‘s Ben Goessling shed some light on the situation on Monday, as well. “I think the point you made, though, about DUI is a good one in the sense that the arrest report does not talk about BAC content,” Goessling said on KFAN. “If it was an edible or something and not alcohol, that’s legal in California. So that may change all of the nature of this, too. So if it’s alcohol .… I think the precedent for that is 3 games and the optics of it obviously are really bad at the moment.”
Star Tribune has already coined Addison “the Vikings No. 1 knuckleheaded wide receiver.” The author vociferously criticized the Vikings for not rushing to judgment.
The whole situation has taken on a life of its own, mainly because of the initial details and lack thereof. No wonder the Vikings are pissed.
