Tom Brady Loving on Vikings Quarterback

The Minnesota Vikings came into the offseason knowing that they needed a quarterback. Then Kirk Cousins departed. Grabbing Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy with the 10th overall pick, they have their future piece, and Tom Brady got chummy with him on Sunday.

Any time you get face time with one of the best players to play the game, it makes sense to take it. For J.J. McCarthy, being able to pick the brain of Tom Brady, even for an instant, couldn’t be more valuable. On Sunday, the future Hall of Famer posted a picture of himself and McCarthy on his Instagram story with the caption, “Go Blue.”

Of course, both Brady and McCarthy played their collegiate football at the University of Michigan. Brady, you might have heard, was picked a bit later than McCarthy was. It seems unlikely that McCarthy’s career will ever reach the heights of Brady’s, but even getting to certain parallels would be a huge win.

Based on Brady’s Instagram story, he recently sat down with each of the top quarterback draftees. He has a picture of himself and Drake Maye while also referencing Caleb Williams in another image. The get-together was a Fanatics-driven event, with CEO Michael Rubin assembling the group.

We will likely never be told about the actual discussions. Again, though, Brady being present for someone like McCarthy to talk with and potentially develop a relationship with is never going to be a bad thing. McCarthy has a significant amount of development to take place both this year and into his playing career. Surrounding himself with talented and intelligent individuals is nothing to ever avoid.

It remains unlikely that McCarthy will start the season under center for Kevin O’Connell, but the plan certainly isn’t to run Sam Darnold out there forever, and Minnesota is hoping they have their quarterback of the future.
