The Vikings Must Hold Serve on Sunday
The Minnesota Vikings are fresh off a laugher against the Chicago Bears. They welcomed the division rival to U.S. Bank Stadium and made quick work of a team they took to overtime on the road. They can’t afford for there to be a letdown this week.
The Vikings Must Hold Serve on Sunday
When Minnesota comes out against the Seattle Seahawks, they will play in one of the more challenging environments across the league. The 12th Man has long been considered a substantial homefield advantage, but this isn’t the same Seahawks franchise anymore.
Mike Macdonald has taken over, Russell Wilson is long gone, and the Legion of Boom are all in their rocking chairs. The Seahawks are the epitome of mediocrity at 8-6 in a bad NFC West division. It would be impossible for the Vikings not to understand this. They also can’t take any of it for granted.
In Weeks 17 and 18, Kevin O’Connell’s team will face their toughest tests of the season. The Vikings have already knocked off the Packers at Lambeau Field, but they will be coming for revenge. A tilt with Detroit at Ford Field could have the number one seed on the line. Both matchups are important, but only if Minnesota can avoid looking too far ahead.
The Seahawks do plenty of things well. It remains to be seen if they’ll have Geno Smith or Kenneth Walker III, but both appear trending towards being available. If Seattle has its full complement of talent, there is no reason why they can’t force Minnesota into an actual game.
Minnesota has struggled with the Seahawks over the years. Blair Walsh provided one of the more frustrating losses in franchise history against Seattle, and the Vikings continue to be reminded of it. After a victory in which they could cruise, it would be more than welcome to see the Vikings replicate that performance on the road.
The Vikings have dropped just a single road game this season. It came against a resurgent Rams team on a short week. There aren’t many excuses for a similar performance this time, and Minnesota will have no one to blame but themselves. Make the final weeks matter because you took a lackluster opponent seriously.
