Myles Gaskin is back in the saddle for the Minnesota Vikings and will hope to earn a roster spot in eight months.

The former Miami Dolphins halfback spent most of 2023 in Minnesota but didn’t earn much playing time.

Vikings Add RB in Reunion Move

The Vikings added 10 players to futures contracts on Tuesday and, one day later, made sure to sign Gaskin on the dotted line, too.

Minnesota’s main account on the X app tweeted, “The Vikings have signed RB Myles Gaskin to a reserve/future free agent contract.”

Gaskin joins this class of futures-contract signees in 2024:

  • Abraham Beauplan (LB)
  • Henry Byrd (OG)
  • Coy Cronk (OT)
  • Myles Gaskin (RB)
  • N’Keal Harry (WR)
  • Trishton Jackson (WR)
  • DeWayne McBride (RB)
  • Tyrese Robinson (OG)
  • Thayer Thomas (WR)
  • Joejuan Williams (CB)
  • Jaylin Williams (CB)

The 26-year-old initially joined the Vikings roster late in the summer after the club auditioned men like Kareem Hunt and Mike Davis for the gig. The Dolphins cut Gaskin loose during roster trimdowns, and Minnesota pounced.

Gaskin was the odd man out, at least temporarily, when Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah swung a low-risk trade for Cam Akers in September. Gaskin then returned to the Vikings practice squad.

Soon after, the Rams stole Gaskin from the Vikings practice squad in October, a contingency plan when Kyren Williams hit injured reserve. But when Williams returned to the field thereafter, plus contributions from Darrell Henderson and Royce Freeman, Gaskin became expendable.

Then, on November 7th, the Rams dropped him from the depth chart, and the Vikings re-signed Gaskin a week later. An adventure, indeed.

The former 7th-Round draft pick is a dual-threat RB, tabulating 101 receptions since 2019 for 701 yards and 6 touchdowns, with 361 rushing attempts for 1,355 yards and 7 scores. He was at the peak of his powers in 2020, tallying 972 yards from scrimmage.

Here’s Gaskin’s Pro Football Focus resume to date:

2023: DNP (on offense)
2022: 66.5
2021: 64.8
2020: 74.5
2019: 57.4

Gaskin played 10 snaps between the Vikings and Rams in 2023, all on special teams.

After the reunion move, the Vikings have these halfbacks under contract for 2024:

  • Ty Chandler
  • Alexander Mattison
  • Kene Nwangwu
  • DeWayne McBride
  • Myles Gaskin

Gaskin will turn 27 in five weeks.
