Also, please note: These are opinion-based responses. Some answers will be incorrect from time to time. But we’ll try to keep that to a minimum.
Q: Who will be the Vikings’ most valuable player NOT named Justin Jefferson?
Answer: Jonathan Greenard, Christian Darrisaw, or Sam Darnold.
If Darnold is the real deal — something in the neighborhood of 3,500 passing yards and 25+ touchdowns — he can be the non-Jefferson MVP, especially if Minnesota nibbles at playoff contention. Otherwise, a more proven player like Greenard would get the nod.
General manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah signed Greenard as the initial and direct replacement for Danielle Hunter, later onboarding Andrew Van Ginkel and Dallas Turner. Greenard should have the space to feast on defense this year, and if he can approach Hunter’s production, he’s on tap for a promising first campaign in Minneapolis.
Aaron Jones, Ivan Pace Jr., and Stephon Gilmore are other names to watch. Otherwise, Christian Darrisaw is about as sturdy as it gets at left tackle.
Q: What’s your official Super Bowl LIX prediction?
Answer: Cincinnati Bengals over Philadelphia Eagles.
While the Kansas City Chiefs are wonderful — they proved it again on Thursday Night Football — the Bengals have the special sauce to topple Patrick Mahomes and Co, defeating them thrice since Joe Burrow entered the NFL. We’ll take Cincinnati to slip by Kansas City sometime in the postseason.
In the NFC, the Super Bowl runner-up hangover is real, so we’re not picking the San Francisco 49ers. And if one doesn’t totally trust the Detroit Lions or Green Bay Packers, the Eagles remain.
Cincinnati wins its first Super Bowl.
Q: Which new Vikings player are you most excited to watch on Sunday?
A: Sam Darnold — just to see if he’s any good.
It’s not that we’re convinced he’ll play like an utter stud or anything of the sort. But some Vikings fans truly believe a geographical cure will do Darnold favors.
Well, on Sunday, the world gets a first peek at Purple Darnold, and it’s just so mysterious — he could play great or terribly — that he’s the player we are on high alert to watch.
