Questions Answered: Aaron Rodgers as the Vikings’ 2025 QB, the Run Offense, Winning the North
Also, please note: These are opinion-based responses. Some answers will be incorrect from time to time. But we’ll try to keep that to a minimum.
Q: Do you think the Vikings will explore Aaron Rodgers as the 2025 starting quarterback?
Answer: No.
We believe J.J. McCarthy will be Minnesota’s QB1 in 2025 and beyond. It’s that simple.
ESPN’s Rich Cimini tweeted, “With a totally new regime in 2025, it likely means Aaron Rodgers won’t be back. A new GM and new HC will probably want their own QB. Rodgers has a good relationship with Douglas, and last week he advocated for Jeff Ulbrich — and it’s hard to imagine him wanting to even be back.”
And ESPN’s Kevin Seifert, who covers the Vikings, quickly retweeted, “👀. Vikings have one QB under contract for 2025 and he has never played a down of regular-season NFL football. It’s happening.”
That’s where the Rodgers-to-Vikings hubbub came from this week.
In theory, if McCarthy suffered some kind of catastrophic recovery setback, perhaps Rodgers would make sense. But in that case, the Vikings would likely just re-sign Sam Darnold.
We say no to Rodgers as a Viking — for a recommendation and as a prediction.
Q: Is the Vikings rushing offense good, bad, or mid?
Answer: It is middle of the pack but has improved since last year.
Here’s the Vikings’ ground game scene per DVOA from the last three seasons:

Minnesota also hasn’t abandoned the run. It did so in 2022 and 2023.

The easiest way to think of it? The Vikings have the NFL’s 19th-best rushing attack, up eight spots from the last two seasons.
Q: Can Minnesota still win the NFC North?
Answer: Probably not.
Detroit has just a one-game lead on Minnesota, but the Lions feel like a juggernaut.
Stranger things have happened, but we’d bet on the Lions taking The North — and recommend that the Vikings focus on keeping the Green Bay Packers at bay for second place.
