Q: Do you expect the Vikings to sign or trade for an additional quarterback even after the recent Matt Corral addition?

Answer: No, probably not.

If something happens injury-wise to Sam Darnold, the answer could morph into yes. Although it is disappointing that J.J. McCarthy was lost for the season, Minnesota probably “likes what it has” in Sam Darnold, Nick Mullens, Jaren Hall, and now Matt Corral.

Of course, this could all be tossed out the window if Darnold fell injured. A trade similar to the one involving Joshua Dobbs could be on the menu. But that’s a discussion for a later date if Darnold gets hurt.

Minnesota will keep three quarterbacks on the regular season roster โ€” probably Darnold, Mullens, and Corral.

Q: Will Bo Richter make the regular season roster?

Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports.

Answer: We say yes.

In our June and July 53-man roster projections, we always saved a spot for UCLA’s Gabriel Murphy, but he’s recently been hobbled by injury and hasn’t made an impact this summer. Instead, Richter has filled “the Murphy role” in July and August. He also balled out in the first preseason game last weekend.

Minnesota will likely keep five outside linebackers, which puts Richter on the roster bubble. But we think he’ll make the active roster because a practice squad assignment would make him available for another team’s swipe.

Q: Is Stephon Gilmore to the Vikings dead?

A: No, not at all.

According to KSTP’s Darren Wolfson, Minnesota isn’t proceeding thriftily with Gilmore. He said on SKOR North this week, “It’s on the player. I am led to believe the Vikings are willing to compensate him, and compensate him pretty darn well. The Vikings want him.”

Gilmore to Vikings boils down to whether he wants to play for a club that probably isn’t contending for a Super Bowl. He’ll turn 34 in September, and his NFL clock is ticking.
