Much Anticipated NFL Trade Is Done

Six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Davante Adams, disillusioned with his situation on the Las Vegas Raiders’ roster, finally received his marching orders, traded to the New York Jets on Tuesday morning, just 11 hours after the Jets sunk to 2-4 on the season.

Adams is a Jet, reuniting with his former quarterback from the Green Bay Packers days, Aaron Rodgers.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero tweeted, “The Jets are sending a 2025 third-round pick that can become a second-rounder to the Raiders for Davante Adams, per source. New York takes on the rest of Adams’ salary to get it done and reunite him with Aaron Rodgers.”

Based on conditions, the pick can morph into a 2nd-Rounder if applicable.

Adams requested a trade from the Las Vegas Raiders at the start of the month, an outcome onlookers have seen from a thousand miles away. He joined the Raiders via trade in 2022 and, at the time, was paired with his former college quarterback, Derek Carr, a move he endorsed. But Las Vegas quickly struggled with Adams on the roster, and for the last two to three seasons, a trade seemed wildly probable. That came to fruition on Tuesday.

Soon after Adam’s early-October trade request, Josina Anderson tweeted about the Adams trade saga: “Just spoke to a league source indicating an NFC team would have interest in Davante Adams, but not currently for a 2nd-round pick. Sounds like restructuring would be needed in this* particular case too. Will keep adding to the prospect list.”

In the end, the Jets and Raiders compromised — the pick is a 3rd-Rounder, capable of becoming a 2nd.

This is the Jets’ new wide receiving corps:

  • Garrett Wilson
  • Davante Adams
  • Allen Lazard
  • Mike Williams
  • Irvin Charles
  • Xavier Gipson
  • Malachi Corley

New York has a 38% chance of reaching the postseason, according to sportsbooks, so the Adams deal can be classified as a Hail Mary exchange with hopes of sparking wins. At 2-4, the prognosis is grim.

The Jets next play the Pittsburgh Steelers on the road under primetime lights on Sunday Night Football. Adams will have five days to learn the green offense, a task that a veteran like him should be able to handle.

Adams’ pal Rodgers ranks 23rd of 32 qualifying quarterbacks per EPA+CPOE, an efficiency metric measuring expected wins added, and Rodgers looks angry on the field after virtually every Jets offensive play.
