The Vikings Got the Biggest Meeting

Expected to be in the market for a quarterback in some capacity, they landed a meeting with the top prospect, Caleb Williams.

Former USC quarterback Caleb Williams will not throw until his pro day; instead, he is at the NFL Combine to meet with potential employers. Ian Rapoport revealed that eight teams have secured a sitdown with the top prospect, and despite picking 11th, the Minnesota Vikings are among them.

There is a clear division between quarterback groups this year. Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels join Williams in a trio, while Bo Nix, Michael Penix Jr., and J.J. McCarthy make up the second group. Where Minnesota dabbles, if at all, remains to be seen. They would unquestionably need to trade up in the first round to take a prospect from the first group. McCarthy may be the first to go from the second group, but the others should be available at the 11th pick should Minnesota stay put.

Williams is expected to go first overall, and that would mean either the Chicago Bears take him and replace Justin Fields or they trade out of that spot. It would take a haul to make them move regardless, but for a divisional foe to be given their quarterback of the future, you could expect that compensation to be otherworldly.

There hasn’t been much steam regarding the Vikings’ interest in moving to the top spot or taking Williams at this point. Their connection to the top group has focused more on Maye, but of course, everything at this point is speculation.

Daniels had a standout college season among the best group and wound up with the Heisman Trophy. Williams and Maye both regressed in their final collegiate year and how much that factors into the thoughts of potential suitors remains to be seen.

You can expect plenty of information as to how the meetings go for Williams to leak out over the coming days.
