The Minnesota Vikings and San Francisco 49ers opened week one with big victories. They will face off on Sunday at U.S. Bank Stadium.

Ali Siddiqui’s MIN-SF Prediction + Flashback

Minnesota is coming off an impressive 28-6 win on the road against the New York Giants, and San Francisco is coming off a 32-19 win at home against the New York Jets. San Francisco leads the all-time series 25-24-1, but their last win in Minnesota came in 1992. The last time these two teams met was in week seven of last season, and that game was also played in Minnesota.

Minnesota won 22-17, improving to 3-4 on the season. They finished at 7-10. San Francisco fell to 5-2 with the loss and finished at 12-5.

“One play here, one play there. We’ve had some tough losses,” said Cousins, who went 35 for 45 for 378 yards and no sacks. “Last year we were fortunate enough to pull them out. We found a way tonight.”

For San Francisco, Brock Purdy went 21/30 for 272 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. Christian McCaffrey rushed for 45 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. He also caught three passes for 51 yards and a touchdown. George Kittle caught five passes for 78 yards.

Prediction
Cary Edmondson-USA TODAY Sports.

Last season, San Francisco advanced to the Super Bowl for the second time in four seasons. Once again, they should be in contention to make it back there. Minnesota looked very good last week, but they are still expected to miss the playoffs for the fourth time in five seasons.

Maybe Minnesota will pull off an upset against them again, but right now, it looks like San Francisco will most likely win on any given Sunday.

Maybe they will surprise this Sunday and the rest of the season.

Of course, a lot will depend on how Sam Darnold looks the rest of the season. He looked good last week. True, the Giants are not expected to be a good team, but it was still a good performance he had nonetheless, especially given it was his first game with his new team. The defense is giving some people reasons for optimism the rest of the way.

Prediction: 49ers win 24-17
