Minnesota Vikings training camp is underway, with all players reporting to Eagan as of Tuesday, July 24th.

3 Trades the Vikings Should Fire off This Summer

The franchise is on deck for six or seven wins in 2024, per sportsbooks, mainly because the team has quarterback uncertainty for the first time since 2014.

Accordingly, the roster could stand to host some additions, perhaps via trade. These are three summer trades the Vikings should explore, ranked in ascending order (No. 1 = top trade idea).

3. Maurice Hurst (DT)

Age: 29
Current Team: Cleveland Browns
The Possible Trade Price for MIN: 2026 5th- or 6th-Rounder
2023 PFF Grade: 81.0

The Browns utilized Round 2 of the 2024 NFL Draft to select DT Michael Hall of Ohio State, a rookie who might already live ahead of Hurst on the depth chart. Of course, the Browns just re-signed Hurst in March, making a trade somewhat improbable, but that move occurred before the Hall selection.

Adofo-Mensah has ties to Cleveland’s front office from former employment, so this one could make sense.

2. Treylon Burks (WR)

Age: 24
Current Team: Tennessee Titans
The Possible Trade Price for MIN: Lewis Cine or 7th-Rounder
2023 PFF Grade: 52.4

Bleacher Report cooked this one up in May. Alex Kay explained Burks to Minnesota, “Treylon Burks could be the high-upside talent the Vikings need to reinforce their receiving corps at low cost. Burks could be available, especially after the Tennessee Titans—the club that selected Boyd on Day 1 of the 2022 draft—brought in Tyler Boyd to fill their slot receiver role. With a logjam of receiving talent now in the Music City, Burks looks to be the odd man out following a slow start to his NFL career.”

The idea was wonderful, and the Vikings should pounce, possibly nominating Burks for WR3 duty.

1. Jonathan Allen (DT)

Age: 29
Current Team: Washington Commanders
The Possible Trade Price for MIN: 2026 4th-Rounder & 2025 5th-Rounder
2023 PFF Grade: 59.7

This deal wouldn’t be cheap for a team with limited draft capital, but adding Allen would undeniably put a punctuation mark on the offseason. He produced a quieter year than normal last season but could bounce back in 2024. The two-time Pro Bowler has no more guaranteed money on his current contract, and Washington could deal him this summer for a fresh start.

Meanwhile, the Commanders drafted Jer’Zhan Newton at Allen’s spot in April. Newton could start sooner rather than later, plopping Allen in the NFL’s trade rumor mill.
