2 Former Vikings Work Out for Broncos
The Minnesota Vikings have made 10 roster moves since the start of July, adding new players, waiving existing ones, and sending players to the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP list).
2 Former Vikings Work Out for Broncos
The Denver Broncos have fired up eight such moves, as the NFL’s roster trimdown deadline is now just 20 days away, and depth charts will dwindle from 91 players to 53.
And on Monday, Denver worked out two recently waived Vikings players, with its first preseason game on Sunday around the bend, a date at the Indianapolis Colts.
Abraham Beauplan (LB)
Veteran cornerback Fabian Moreau joined the purple team about a week ago, and to make room for him, Beauplan became the odd man out.
Minnesota onboarded Beauplan in April 2023, an undrafted free agent and a part of a notable class that included Ivan Pace Jr. and outside linebacker Andre Carter II. However, unlike Pace Jr. and Carter II, Beauplan saw no regular season action as a rookie and lived on the practice squad instead.
He did, though, rejoin the Vikings’ roster immediately after the 2023 season. Beauplan was one of Minnesota’s first offseason moves, re-signing him for what turned out to be six months.
Beauplan recorded a total of 231 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, and 3.5 sacks in 35 games at Marshall University — Randy Moss’ alma mater.
Headlined by Alex Singleton, Jonas Griffith, and Cody Barton, Denver has seven inside linebackers on its current roster, and if signed, Beauplan — like the next guy — will battle for a September roster spot.
K.J. Cloyd (LB)
To make room for linebacker Jabril Cox, who joined the Vikings’ roster on July 25th, someone had to hit the waiver wire, and that was Cloyd, an undrafted free-agent linebacker from the University of Miami (and Louisville before that).
Cloyd played 49 games at Louisville and Miami before joining Minnesota’s summer roster four months ago. He could eventually return to the Vikings’ orbit, perhaps returning later this summer if another depth defender is needed.
The undrafted free agent will hope to parlay the Denver tryout into a contract, like his former teammate, albeit briefly, Beauplan.
These are the Vikings’ inside linebackers without Beauplan or Cloyd, a group that will likely diminish to four players on August 27th:
- Ivan Pace
- Blake Cashman
- Kamu Grugier-Hill
- Jabril Cox
- Brian Asamoah
- Dallas Gant
Sportsbooks expect the Broncos to win 5.5 games in 2024.
