Time to Plow the Salary Cap for the Vikings

The snow is piling up this week like salary cap dollars have for the Vikings the past few seasons, and they need to plow some of that cash out of here. It remains to be seen whose cash is extended, whose gets dumped and whose goes dead. They have a lot of decisions to make as we head into the new NFL year.
There are a lot of ways to move the white stuff, I mean, green stuff around, and it likely begins with that “guaranteed” money pit name Kirk Cousins. The Vikings will need to make a decision on what to do at the QB position, and after last season, Cousins made the decision a little easier. With Cousins Having one of his best seasons as a pro (certainly in the win/loss column), the Purple will likely move to bring him back. For how many seasons? That remains to be seen.
Next comes a new contract for Kirk’s two favorite targets, Justin Jefferson and T.J. Hockenson. According to Darren Wolfson from KSTP, the Vikings have a definite interest in extending Hockenson, which would solidify the tight end position for some time to come—but neither he nor JJ is going to come cheap. It’s going to be raining, I mean, snowing cash up in there.
And that doesn’t begin to address the defense, which after producing at near the bottom of the league in both yards and points allowed, is certainly going to go through some changes. The Vikings acquired a new defensive coordinator in former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores, and he will, without a doubt, remake, reshape, retool and reinvent the defense to fit his more aggressive style than the one we witnessed in 2022. Flores had his introductory press conference last week and there were some definite nuggets to glean from it.

The Vikings have 15 unrestricted free agents and two more restricted ones to make decisions on (some in the coming days).
