If you were disenchanted with the Minnesota Vikings playing the Chicago Bears every season at the end of the schedule, it’s time to rejoice. That tendency is paused.

Per a handful of sources, the Vikings 2023 schedule was obtained by VikingsTerritory and should be considered fluid. Updates will be added to this article in real time, but for the most part, the schedule is pretty well set.

The Vikings start Kevin O’Connell’s second season at home against the Baker Mayfield-led Tampa Bay Buccaneers and end 2023 at the upstart Detroit Lions, who oddsmakers believe will win the division.

Minnesota gets a reprieve from playing the Packers on the road late in the season — in the cold — instead taking on Jordan Love’s cheese team right before Halloween.

Also noteworthy is the Lions double-dip near the end of the season because, if sportsbooks are correct, the two clubs will be vying for the NFC North at that time on the calendar. Detroit stole the nation’s heart late last year, preventing the Packers from reaching the postseason in Week 18. Accordingly, the Lions have newfound momentum to win the North for the first time since 1993.

The Vikings have an eight-home-game and nine-road-game agenda this season, a split that will flip in 2024 when the franchise has nine home games again.

O’Connell’s team also has five primetime games, a full plate indeed, probably because Minnesota won 13 games in 2022. Playoff teams and division winners tend to get under-the-lights primetime attention, and the Vikings are no different.

Minnesota’s 2023 opponents produced a cumulative 143-145 (.497) record last year, ranking the Vikings strength of schedule 18th in the league heading into September. That means it’s a middling schedule for difficulty, although, on paper, the itinerary looks more challenging than last year — likely because of the nine road games instead of eight.
