1) The Vikings’ Financial Facts Post-Dalvin Cook: Moving on from Cook was financially motivated. Kwesi Adofo-Mensah is in the process of getting the purple ledger in order. Part of that involves moving on from veterans who no longer fit within the new leadership’s vision.
2) Step 2 for the Vikings Hasn’t Arrived Yet: By moving on from Cook, the Vikings opened up a roster spot. Are they going to fill it? If so, when? Getting help at basically any position on the defense would be a positive, but corner and edge rusher really stand out.
3) Wes Phillips’ Presser Proves Prophetic, Foreshadows Great Chance for Vikings Sophomore: The offensive coordinator was fairly outgoing in his praise for Ty Chandler, a second-year RB who is competing for the RB2 job. Alexander Mattison will need someone to help out even as he receives the bulk of the carries.
4) A Trail of Hints Suggest Vikings Secondary Will be Highly Malleable: The corner room is largely uncertain. The safety room, in contrast, has both proven talent as well as upside. Might we see a defense that features the safeties more prominently? Harrison Smith should shine working alongside Mr. Flores.
5) The Vikings Decision to Release Dalvin Cook Boiled Down to a Simple Reason: Being unwilling to budge on a contract adjustment likely sealed his fate, at least in Minnesota (tip of the cap to Darren Wolfson). To stick around – or even to facilitate a trade – Cook would have had to agree to adjust his deal.
