The 2023 NFL Standings after the Dust Settles from Week 2
Two weeks of the NFL season have come and gone.
While the playoffs are still a ways away, it is good to get a sense of where each team sits in the NFL standings.
As we head into the Week 3 slate of games, here is a full look at the 2023 NFL standings.
NFL Standings Following Week 2
AFC East
- Miami Dolphins (2-0)
- New York Jets (1-1)
- Buffalo Bills (1-1)
- New England Patriots (0-2)
To very little surprise at this point, the Miami Dolphins find themselves at the top of the AFC East behind their high-flying offense. Through two weeks, Tua Tagovailoa leads the league in passing yards and passing first downs and is fully in the mix for the MVP conversation.
Meanwhile, following their Week 1 blunder against the Aaron Rodgers-less Jets, the Bills got a nice bounceback win this weekend against the Raiders. They should be competitive in this division as well while the Jets and Patriots seem destined to bring up the rear.
AFC North
- Baltimore Ravens (2-0)
- Pittsburgh Steelers (1-1)
- Cleveland Browns (1-1)
- Cincinnati Bengals (0-2)
The Ravens jumped out to an early lead in the AFC North thanks to wins against Houston and Cincinnati to begin the year. Lamar Jackson has looked like an MVP-caliber QB again, and the defense is stout in Baltimore.
Pittsburgh jumped a spot thanks to a Monday night victory over the Cleveland Browns, and the Bengals are bringing up the rear following their AFC Championship berth in 2022.
AFC South
- Jacksonville Jaguars (1-1)
- Indianapolis Colts (1-1)
- Tennessee Titans (1-1)
- Houston Texans (0-2)
The AFC South is a bit of a mess to this point. Jacksonville got a win against the Colts in Week 1, so they currently hold the tiebreaker for the division lead. Meanwhile, we’ve seen some positive things both in Indy and Tennessee, so perhaps this division won’t be filled with the bottom teams in the league after all.
However, Houston’s skill players around C.J. Stroud simply aren’t talented enough to keep up with the rest of the talent in a loaded AFC. They have had two double-digit losses to begin the year.
AFC West
- Las Vegas Raiders (1-1)
- Kansas City Chiefs (1-1)
- Los Angeles Chargers (0-2)
- Denver Broncos (0-2)
Who would’ve thought that the Las Vegas Raiders would be leading the AFC West through two weeks? A divisional win helps them in that department, but if they continue to look like they did against the Bills, that lead won’t last long.
The Chiefs got off the snide with a win over the Jaguars, led by their defense. Meanwhile, the Broncos and Chargers have been major disappointments at 0-2.
NFC East
- Dallas Cowboys (2-0)
- Philadelphia Eagles (2-0)
- Washington Commanders (2-0)
- New York Giants (1-1)
The Cowboys look like the best team in the league through two weeks with dominant victories in both Weeks 1 and 2. They have a point differential of +60 heading into Week 3 with their offense and defense humming.
Philadelphia also sits at 2-0, but without a divisional victory to their name, Dallas gets the tiebreaker for now. The Eagles wins have been far less convincing as their defense has stumbled in the second halves of both games.
The Commanders are a surprise 2-0 team as well, but considering their wins have come against the Cardinals and Broncos, it is valid to question just how long this will last. Still, New York looks like they could be the worst team in this group right now.
NFC North
- Green Bay Packers (1-1)
- Detroit Lions (1-1)
- Minnesota Vikings (0-2)
- Chicago Bears (0-2)
Another mess is being seen in the NFC North to start the year. Green Bay leads the way because of their divisional win over the Bears in Week 1, but Detroit is right on their heels thanks to a Week 1 victory over the defending champs.
Both Chicago and Minnesota sit at 0-2 right now. Chicago has struggled mightily in the trenches both offensively and defensively. Meanwhile, Minnesota’s biggest problem has been turnovers. They lead the league with seven through two games.
NFC South
- Atlanta Falcons (2-0)
- New Orleans Saints (2-0)
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-0)
- Carolina Panthers (0-2)
The NFC South consists of three undefeated teams and a defeated team. All three of Atlanta, New Orleans, and Tampa Bay have begun the year with a 2-0 record, and defense in the second half of games has been the main story for all three teams.
Meanwhile, the Panthers simply haven’t mustered enough offensive production to keep up in their first two games. Protection has struggled around Bryce Young, leading to a slow start to the season.
