The Minnesota Vikings begin their 2023 regular season by taking on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, September 10th.

The Vikings released their first injury report earlier on Wednesday afternoon, and LB Troy Dye was the only player listed.

However, the linebacker’s elbow injury did not limit him at all in practice. Kevin O’Connell also stated during his media availability that he expects Dye to participate in Sunday’s game against the Bucs.

On the Tampa Bay side, the Buccaneers had five players listed on their injury report. This list includes their 2023 first-round pick, DT Calijah Kancey, who was selected 19th overall out of Pittsburgh.

The full list of injuries for Tampa Bay includes the following players:

  • DT Calijah Kancey (Calf, DNP)
  • S Kaveon Merriweather (Quad, Limited)
  • LB Anthony Nelson (Hamstring, Limited)
  • RB Ke’shawn Vaughn (Non-Injury, DNP)
  • S Antoine Winfield (Calf, Full)

Neither Kancey nor Vaughn participated in Wednesday’s practice for the Buccaneers, but Vaughn’s absence was not injury-related.

Meanwhile, both starting safeties for Tampa Bay were on the injury report as Merriweather works through a quad injury, and Winfield was a full participant despite a calf injury.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Antoine Winfield Jr. (31) breaks up a pass intended for Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins (85) in the second quarter during a Week 15 NFL game, Sunday, Dec. 18, 2022, at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla. Nfl Cincinnati Bengals At Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Tampa Bay boasts one of the stronger defenses in the NFL, but with a matchup against Minnesota’s high-powered offense, they will need each of these starters in order to have a chance at upsetting the Vikings in Week 1.

Winfield, in particular, has been a huge part of the Bucs’ success over the first three seasons of his career. After being selected in the second-round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the safety has recorded 262 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 9 sacks, 15 passes defended, 4 interceptions, 5 forced fumbles, and 4 fumble recoveries.
