Rob Gronkowski Again Advocates for Vikings Trade

Last week, future Hall of Famer Rob Gronkowski suggested the Minnesota Vikings should trade quarterback Kirk Cousins to the New York Jets if the team sunk to an 0-3 record after a meeting with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Then, the purple team indeed achieved the lowly 0-3 record, losing at home to Los Angeles 28-24.

Rob Gronkowski Again Advocates for Vikings Trade

Unsurprisingly, Gronkowski is back at it, again calling for Minnesota’s front office to ship Cousins to the Jets, evidently with visions of grandeur that the 35-year-old could turn around New York’s flailing season.

“If, for some reason, the Vikings lose, Kirk Cousins should be shipped out 100%. He should be shipped out to the New York Jets,” Gronkowski told The Up & Adams Show on Wednesday.

“They need to fix that quarterback position this year if they want to win some games,” the former Patriot and Buccaneers added about the Jets quarterback malady.

The Vikings travel to Carolina this Sunday for a high-stakes date with the Panthers, needing a win to begin thinking about a season turnaround. Just six teams in NFL history have fixed an 0-3 start to the tune of an eventual playoff berth, and no 0-3 squad has ever gone on to reach the Super Bowl.

A winless start to a season through three weeks is usually a death march for a team, and in the Vikings case, perhaps a catalyst for change. Cousins is not under contract in Minnesota beyond this season, and if nothing changes, he’ll hit free agency in 5.5 months.

Last week, Gronkowski echoed a similar sentiment about a possible Cousins trade, “For the Vikings, if they go 0-3, there’s going to be some serious change at the quarterback position. They have a good team, but they can’t finish, they can’t win games. Their head coach is going to be staying there, he’s only in his second year, but I feel like Kirk Cousins will be shipped out.”

The Jets lost Aaron Rodgers four plays into the 2023 season during Monday Night Football on September 11th, all but canceling Super Bowl aspirations that New York hasn’t enjoyed in decades.

“Somebody’s going to want to trade for him that’s a playoff contender. He’s a good player, he’s putting up the stats, he’s playing well. Kirk Cousins will get shipped out, and they’ll be building for the future, hopefully, tank for Caleb Williams out of USC next year,” Gronkowski added.

Ergo, if you’re keeping score at home, in back-to-back weeks, a rather prominent NFL voice in Gronkowski has endorsed the realism and feasibility of a Cousins trade to New York. In theory, should Minnesota toss Cousins in the trade rumor mill, it better move fast. Soon, with Zach Wilson’s QB1 leadership in New York, the Jets will have a 1-5 record and realize no quarterback can salvage the season in a crowded AFC playoff pool.

Cousins leads the NFL in passing yards and touchdown passes through Week 3.
