Randy Moss Has a Mt. Rushmore

By Dustin Baker

Many Minnesota Vikings fans call him the GOAT, but Hall of Famer Randy Moss named GOATs of his own this week.

Randy Moss Has a Mt. Rushmore

Moss played in the NFL from 1998 to 2012 and spoke this week about his personal Mount Rushmore of wide receivers, a topic oft-mentioned by NFL enthusiasts to determine the historical WR pecking order.

For Moss, the WR Mount Rushmore is somewhat predictable and non-controversial. He joined Kevin Hart on LOL Network’s Cold As Balls show and revealed his Rushmore:

  • Himself
  • Terrell Owens
  • Jerry Rice
  • Calvin Johnson

Moss plugged himself foremost — which is what GOATs do — by saying, “Hands down, I consider myself the greatest wide receiver to ever play the game. That wasn’t a shot at Jerry. I still got respect and love for Jerry. But I just thought the way that I changed the game of football.”

Moss played for the Vikings from 1998 to 2005, almost single-handedly creating a generation of Vikings fans. He later joined a few other NFL clubs, making the most noise with Tom Brady and the New England Patriots from 2007 to 2010 before rejoining the Vikings for a memorable but ill-fated stint.

The Hall of Famer ranks second all-time in receiving touchdowns behind Jerry Rice. He’s also the NFL’s fourth-leading receiver in league history, trailing only Rice, Larry Fitzgerald, and Terrell Owens. The closest active touchdown suitor to Moss is free-agent tight end Jimmy Graham, who is a mile behind the former Viking. Julio Jones is the closest active player to Moss in receiving yards.

Moss also enjoys Justin Jefferson’s presence on the Vikings. During a training camp last summer, Moss tweeted about a Jefferson highlight, “WR TEACHING TAPE…..Great out route and great coverage. the teaching part is top of route cutting the db angle OFF!! Justin Jefferson GREATNESS.”

He also spoke to TMZ four months ago and touted Jefferson as the league’s top WR, a common opinion after Jefferson earned the NFL’s Offensive Player of the Year award in 2022. What’s more, Moss was concerned about Dalvin Cook’s exit from the franchise, which turned out to be a wise decision, not a hindrance.

“If there’s anything that I have in question for the Minnesota Vikings and Justin Jefferson moving forward, it’s what Dalvin Cook meant to that running game and the play-action passing game for Kirk Cousins and that offense,” Moss explained.

Cook has 214 rushing yards in 14 games for the New York Jets this season.

There isn’t much to debate on Moss’ Mount Rushmore. Although it might seem a bit strange that he left former teammate Cris Carter off the monument.

In August, Cincinnati Bengals wideout Ja’Marr Chase unveiled his Mount Rushmore and curiously excluded Moss and Terrell Owens.
