Packers Blog Claims Vikings Fans Jealous over ‘MVP Odds’

The latest and greatest method to ease the pain of Aaron Rodgers’ apparent transition away from the Green Bay Packers is finger-pointing 2023 MVP odds — and pretending Minnesota Vikings fans are mad about them.

Green Bay will pivot to Jordan Love at quarterback in 2023, a 24-year-old who’s patiently waited for his turn at the cheese throne for three seasons.

And according to some Packers-themed media, Love’s MVP odds “will anger Vikings fans.”

In what could easily fall into “you can’t make this stuff up territory,” FanSided’s Lombardi Ave published an article claiming Vikings fans will be fuming about Love’s higher probability to win the 2023 MVP award than Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins, who enters the final year of his contract this season.

Citing no evidence of angry Vikings fans, Freddie Boston of Lombardi Ave curiously set the tone for his piece titled Why Jordan Love’s 2023 MVP odds will anger Vikings fans by saying, “Minnesota Vikings fans love to remind us how good Kirk Cousins is.”

It is unclear if Boston means that Vikings fans privately tell him Cousins is better than Rodgers or Love. But they evidently say [frequently?] that Cousins is simply good.

Boston posted the MVP odds for 2023 — with Cousins at the bottom:

  • Josh Allen (+700)
  • Joe Burrow (+700)
  • Patrick Mahomes (+700)
  • Justin Herbert (+900)
  • Jalen Hurts (+1200)
  • Lamar Jackson (+1500)
  • Aaron Rodgers (+1600)
  • Trevor Lawrence (+1600)
  • Dak Prescott (+1600)
  • Tua Tagovailoa (+1600)
  • Justin Fields (+2000)
  • Deshaun Watson (+2500)
  • Jared Goff (+2500)
  • Trey Lance (+2500)
  • Jordan Love (+3000)
  • Geno Smith (+3000)
  • Russell Wilson (+4000)
  • Derek Carr (+4000)
  • Kenny Pickett (+4000)
  • Kirk Cousins (+5000)

“But, hang on, is that Jordan Love ahead of Kirk Cousins? The same Jordan Love with one career NFL start?” Boston wrote about Cousins below Love.

Outside the world of manufactured outrage by Lombardi Ave, Vikings fans are actually more excited about the quarterback after Cousins than “reminding people how good Kirk Cousins is.”

We polled Vikings fans last week about their quarterback preference, and the plurality of voters is anxious to trade draft capital for the next QB1.

The Packers drafted love in 2020 with the 26th overall pick, and the man will finally get his crack at Green Bay’s offense in September. Rodgers is mere days — maybe weeks? — from a formal trade to the New York Jets, where he’ll play his age-40 season. And Wisconsin faithful will wait and see if Love continues the three-decades-long streak of Hall of Fame quarterback play.

Vikings fans, on the other hand, will hope to continue success in the head-to-head series against the Packers. Minnesota is 8-7-1 against Green Bay since the start of 2015, even with Rodgers in the saddle for most of the matchups.

And, no — nobody cares about MVP odds, especially in April.
