Vikings 2019 Alumnus Signs with Cardinals
NFL training camps are underway, and Monday was a busy day for teams filling out rosters to the 90-man threshold.
The Minnesota Vikings signed tight end Colin Thompson, a former Carolina Panther. Meanwhile, the Arizona Cardinals added a former Viking, wide receiver Davion Davis.
Vikings 2019 Alumnus Signs with Cardinals
Davis joined the Vikings in 2019 after the NFL draft, an undrafted prospect who later spent the summer in Minnesota.
KPRC2‘s Aaron Wilson tweeted Monday from the X app, “Cardinals signing USFL Stallions Davion Davis, per a league source.”
Davis will now contend for a roster spot in Arizona, a team picked by most NFL experts as the worst franchise in the business heading into 2023. The Cardinals are scheduled to win 4.5 games, per sportsbooks.
Here’s Davis’ destination resume to date:
- Minnesota Vikings (2019)
- Cleveland Browns (2021)
- Houston Texans (2021–2022)
- **Houston Roughnecks (2023)
- **Birmingham Stallions (2023)
- Arizona Cardinals (2023)
**XFL
Davis has appeared in four NFL games to date, tallying one reception for 17 yards in 2021. He also appeared in two Vikings games during his rookie season — or 10 plays. In his career, Davis has been on the field for offense on 24 snaps. He’ll hope to up that number in Arizona, although he should be considered a longshot to make the regular season roster.
These men formulate the Cardinals WR room as of July 24th:
- Marquise Brown
- Rondale Moore
- Greg Dortch
- Michael Wilson
- Andre Baccellia
- Zach Pascal
- Daniel Arias
- Brandon Smith
- Brian Cobbs
- Davion Davis
With the Stallions last season, Davis recorded 575 yards and four touchdowns on 39 receptions. Davis was suspended for the first two games of the 2021 season after violating the substance abuse policy, and Cleveland cut ties shorty thereafter.
During the summer of 2019, Davis was ‘one of those guys’ who Vikings fans watched with a keen eye at training camp and in the preseason. Wide receivers always draw a certain fascination from fans, and Davis was hence theorized as a player who could grab a 53-man roster spot. But Chad Beebe and Bisi Johnson later earned the final two WR roster spots after Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs.
The Cardinals employ four other former Vikings players: quarterback David Blough, cornerback Nate Hairston, cornerback Kris Boyd, and cornerback Dylan Mabin.
The Vikings host the Cardinals in 2024 at U.S. Bank Stadium.
