Vikings Roster Moves—TJ Extended—Stuff Gets Real

Vikings Territory Breakdown

Stuff is starting to get real. The Vikings made their roster cuts this week and have been busy ever since that time backfilling holes in the roster for depth. GM Kwesi Adolfo-Mensah has frantically signed several players as head coach Kevin O’Connell and defensive coordinator Brian Flores have put in requests for more players. Stuff is getting real with one week to go before the start of the 2023 NFL Regular Season.

In addition to the many roster cuts, which the Vikings Territory lads (Joe Oberle from Vikings Territory and purplePTSD and Mark Craig from the Star Tribune and startribune.com) will discuss on this version of the VT Breakdown podcast, the Vikings made some other moves. They traded tackle Vederian Lowe to the New England Patriots for a 2024 sixth-round pick (which was the same round the Vikings drafted him in). They signed offensive linemen David Quessenberry and Hakeem Adeniji in his stead.

The team also waived wide receiver Jalen Reagor, who had a nice preseason, but the Vikings were lousy with healthy wideouts and not so much in the running back department. So, they signed former Miami Dolphins running back Myles Gaskin off their practice squad. Presumably former Dolphins head coach Flores knows a bit about the five-year pro. Kene Nwangwu was put on the injured reserve and will be out at least four weeks, so the Vikings some numbers in the RB room.

There is plenty to figure out this week, as the faces at TCO Performance Center are changing rapidly—and that may continue. Tune in to the VT Breakdown podcast and get the latest.
