The Minnesota Vikings cut ties with tight end Jake Bargas on August 16th, 2022, via summer roster cuts, and the North Carolina alumnus latched onto the Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins thereafter.

Bargas lasted just two days on the Bears roster before joining the Dolphins, where he earned a 2022 practice squad assignment.

But Bargas evidently wasn’t a priority for the Dolphins to retain for 2023, as the hybrid TE-FB joined the New Orleans Saints this week.

Saints podcaster Jeff Nowak tweeted Wednesday, “Saints have signed FB Jake Bargas and TE Jesse James. K Alex Quevedo was waived. I believe these moves will put them at the 90-man limit.”

Bargas played for the Vikings in two seasons, mainly as a practice squad participant. He did, though, play a handful of regular season snaps in Minnesota in 2020 versus — you guessed it — the Saints on Christmas Day and then in 2021 against the Lions in an infamous road defeat.

Unearthed as an undrafted free agent from North Carolina after the 2020 NFL Draft, Bargas was usually the Vikings ‘other fullback’ behind C.J. Ham. As a Tarheel from 2016 to 2019, Bargas played TE. At North Carolina, Bargas was a target for current Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mitchell Trubisky.

If the Saints have TE plans for Bargas, he’ll fight for a regular season roster spot with several others, including Juwan Johnson, Foster Moreau, Taysom Hill, Jesse James, Lucas Krull, and Miller Forristall. Otherwise, if Bargas fills a fullback role, Adam Prentice is the only man in front of him on the depth chart.

The Saints employ one other ex-Viking, Storm Norton, a left tackle.

The Vikings have won four of their last six matchups against the Saints.
