The Tennesee Titans own a 2-3 record through five weeks of the NFL’s regular season and are considered the league’s 22nd-best squad per DVOA.

Mike Vrabel’s team could effectuate a playoff push inside a relatively weak NFC South or tumble into irrelevance, depending on the outcome of the few games.

No matter what happens, though, the Titans will utilize a former Minnesota Vikings defender on the practice squad, cornerback Tay Gowan.

KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson tweeted on the X app Monday, “Titans signed Tay Gowan to practice squad.”

Gowan, 25, will get a fresh start in the AFC, a promotion away from the active roster and the tutelage of the aforementioned Vrabel, who is known for defense, defense, and more defense.

The Vikings formally cut ties with Gowan right before the start of the regular season after the defender failed to make the 53-man roster. Gowan had been placed on injured reserve but was later waived with an injury settlement on September 7th.

The Arizona Cardinals drafted Gowan in the 6th Round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He remained a Cardinal for six months before the Zach Ertz trade, joining the Philadelphia Eagles for the rest of 2021. The defender then stayed with the Eagles for 10 months but was waived during roster trimdowns in 2022.

And that’s where the Vikings entered the chat, scooping Gowan off the waiver wire and plopping him on the roster for the 2022 season. As a Viking, Gowan played in three regular season games, encompassing 15 special teams plays and zero defensive snaps.

In April, Gowan used the app, formerly known as Twitter, to affirm his commitment to excellence in the NFL, and he didn’t much care if folks didn’t believe him.

Gowan tweeted on April 14th, “In my football career God has always made me wait my turn … I’ve been doing that. Every time I got my turn I showed out! Bring out the film. #MyYear.”

“I know what I’m capable of and I know what I bring to the table,” Gowan added.

With the Gowan addition, the Titans CB room now looks like this, with the practice squad included:

  • Kristian Fulton
  • Sean Murphy-Bunting
  • Roger McCreary
  • Tre Avery
  • Kindle Vildor
  • Anthony Kendall
  • Tay Gowan (PS)
  • Eric Garror (PS)

Tennessee also employs former Vikings defensive lineman Jaleel Johnson on its practice squad.
