The Minnesota Vikings moved to 2-4 through six games on Sunday, defeating the Chicago Bears in a gridiron slopfest, 19-13.

The Vikings beat the Bears at the same building by the same score during the 2020 season.

And according to quarterback Kirk Cousins, music might’ve been the special sauce heading into Soldier Field. The team listened to Creed, particularly the song Higher, in the locker room before the Week 6 triumph.

“Garrett Bradbury, in the locker room pregame, took a clip from the Texas Rangers and made sure that Creed got played before we went out on the field, and I felt like that may have made the difference, so we got that going for us,” Cousins opined after the game Sunday evening.

Creed formed in 1994 and has sold 53 million albums worldwide. The band is considered by some as fabric of 2000s pop culture.

Cousins also attached MLB’s Texas Rangers success to the Creed locker room playlist, “The Rangers have been playing Creed, and they’re rolling in the playoffs, and we’ve been listening to it in the lifts in there here and there, but music’s banging on the boom box most pregames in the locker room, and we thought we’d mix it up the genre a little bit, get some Creed in there.”

Incidentally, the Rangers toppled the Houston Astros in Game 1 of the American League Championship series a few hours after the Vikings downed the Bears.

The Vikings might need hours upon hours of Creed music leading up to their next game. Minnesota faces an angry San Francisco 49ers team in one week on Monday Night Football. The 49ers undefeated streak was snapped on Sunday thanks to a missed game-winning field goal by rookie kicker Jake Moody. Until that moment, San Francisco had cruised in 2023 and, in fact, hadn’t lost a regular season game with Christian McCaffrey on the roster. That changed in Cleveland, and now the 49ers will be motivated to right the ship in Minneapolis.

Cousins is no stranger to music, either. He did this in February:

He’s also a lifelong Blink 182 fan, and Vikings loyalists often bait him on social media into releasing a rumored cover album, to no avail, at least not yet.

The Vikings are early seven-point home underdogs against the 49ers, the biggest home underdog spread for the team in nine years.
