The month of August is almost upon us. That means the ratings are coming out, and here is a view of the Minnesota Vikings Top 5 Madden 24 players by rating.

After an impressive 13-4 showing in the 2022-23 season, Minnesota is one of the top teams in the NFC North. And they are getting some high recognition from the Madden developers, as such.

The Vikings only had two players rated 90 or above at the end of the Madden 23 cycle. To begin Madden 24, they have three, with one in the prestigious 99 club.

With the new cycle comes new animations and hype surrounding the new edition. And the Vikes certainly have plenty of hype surrounding them ahead of the new season. Yet, the Madden Ratings website pins the squad at an 81 overall.

Our own Dustin Baker headlines some Vikings here who will be some of the speediest guys in this year’s game.

That said, here is a look at the Minnesota Vikings Top 5 Madden 24 ratings for their players.

Minnesota Vikings Top 5 Madden 24 Rating Players

No. 1: WR Justin Jefferson (99 OVR, +6 from Madden 23)

At the top of the Vikings list this year is none other than star wideout Justin Jefferson. This is J Jettas’ first time as a part of the exclusive club, and he is just one of five players to garner the honor. Being one of the more exciting young players in today’s game, his electric ability to space the field and create many highlight plays shows why he is worthy of such a high honor.

Whether it be from opposing coaches and scouts to guys who share the same locker room with him, Jefferson is highly regarded as a premier wide receiver in the NFL. Looking back at his 2022 season, the former LSU Tiger recorded career-highs in receptions (128), receiving yards (1809), yards per game (106.4), and total yards from scrimmage (1833). With such a high ceiling, Jefferson looks to be one of the top wide receivers again in 2023.

No. 2 [tie]: S Harrison Smith (90 OVR, no change from Madden 23)

One of the most tenured players on the roster (he’s about to enter his 12th season in the NFL), the first of two Vikings to be a tie for 90 overall, is veteran safety Harrison Smith.

Despite his age starting to show, he continues to put up consistently solid production. In 14 games played last season, the 33-year-old Smith had 85 total tackles, a forced fumble, 10 pass deflections, and five interceptions. Smith’s style of play is very much like a ball-hawk, and he will be one of the critical pieces to the success of the Vikings’ defensive secondary in 2023.

But he’s not the only guy to break into the 90-or-higher overall club.

There are two players in the Minnesota Vikings Top 5 Madden 24 who are exactly at 90.

No. 2 [tie]: TE T.J. Hockenson (90 OVR, +1 from Madden 23)

The other guy in the Minnesota Vikings Top 5 Madden 24 Ratings, who is at exactly 90 overall, is a tight end who will enter his fifth season in the NFL. The guy I’m talking about is T.J. Hockenson. After being acquired from the Detroit Lions in the middle of last season, Hockenson is showing signs of becoming one of the top receiving tight ends in the NFL.

In 10 games with Minnesota last season (seven starts), the fourth-year man from the University of Iowa posted 60 catches out of 86 targets for 519 yards and three scores. 2022, statistically speaking, was Hockenson’s best season, as between Detroit and Minnesota, he posted career bests in receptions (86), receiving yards (914), touchdowns (six, previously matched in the COVID 2020 season), and longest catch (81 yards). As he prepares to embark on year five of his career, Hockenson will be a reliable safety valve for quarterback Kirk Cousins to throw to in almost any situation.

But there are still two other guys I have not yet discussed in the Minnesota Vikings Top 5 Madden 24 Ratings by Player list. One belongs on the defensive side of the ball, while the other is on offense. Let’s find out now who those last two players are…

No. 4: DE/LOLB Danielle Hunter (87 OVR, -1 from Madden 23)

At number four on this list is disgruntled edge rusher Danielle Hunter. Despite not getting any news on a potential contract extension, he is still one of the better edge rushers in today’s game, with the versatility to work as a defensive end or move over to left outside linebacker.

Looking back at his 2022 season, Hunter put together another solid stat line, posting 65 total tackles (12 for loss), 22 quarterback hits, 10.5 sacks (his fourth career double-digit sack season in eight years), a personal-best three pass deflections, and a forced fumble.

Hunter was posted as an 88 overall to start last year’s cycle. He is down one point to an 87 overall to begin 24, which is tied for seventh-best alongside Carolina Panthers LOLB star Brian Burns.

Since this is the final year in his current contract, Hunter should be playing with much more motivation in the 2023-24 season. Whether that will reflect on his rating remains to be seen.

And now for the last one…

No. 5: RT Brian O’Neill (86 OVR, +4 from Madden 23)

The final player in the Minnesota Vikings Top 5 Madden 24 Players list by rating is right tackle Brian O’Neill. About to enter his age-28 season, O’Neill is developing into one of the more steady offensive tackles in today’s NFL. He has started 75 games of the 79 he has appeared in for his career, which means that his health, for the most part, has not been an issue.

The 86 overall rating puts him as the third-best at the right tackle position behind Lane Johnson (Philadelphia Eagles) and Ryan Ramczyk (New Orleans Saints). For a guy of his stature, O’Neill is undoubtedly one guy who can be dependable to protect a quarterback.

Final Thoughts on the Minnesota Vikings Top 5 Madden 24 Players by Rating

Overall, this list is fair. But what seems off is that Kirk Cousins is only an honorable mention being the seventh-best at 84 overall. Ah well. That is the official list of the Minnesota Vikings Top 5 Madden 24 Players by Rating. The game is set to drop on Friday, August 18. Until then, let the criticisms of ratings commence.
