The 2023 NFL Standings Through Week 3

Week 3 of the NFL season brought with it many surprises that disrupted the pecking order in the league.

With the third week of NFL action behind us, here is what the 2023 NFL standings look like heading into Week 4.

2023 NFL Standings after Week 3

AFC East

1. Miami Dolphins (3-0)
2. Buffalo Bills (2-1)
3. New England Patriots (1-2)
4. New York Jets (1-2)

The Dolphins very well may be the best team in the NFL. Their offense has scored 130 points, which trails only the 1968 Dallas Cowboys (132) for the most points scored in a team’s first three games in NFL history.

Meanwhile, Buffalo has certainly gotten back on track following their Week 1 loss to the Jets, and they can take over the division lead by defeating the Dolphins at home this weekend.

New England and New York cannot produce a consistent offense and look miles behind the top two teams in this division.

AFC North

1. Cleveland Browns (2-1)
2. Pittsburgh Steelers (2-1)
3. Baltimore Ravens (2-1)
4. Cincinnati Bengals (1-2)

This looks like the most competitive division in the NFL right now, at least in terms of overall talent. All three of the Browns, Ravens, and Steelers sit at 2-1 through three weeks and largely have lived up to the hype around them.

The one team that sits by themselves at 1-2 is the Bengals, who won the division in 2022 and could very easily catch fire in the coming weeks. They play the Titans, Cardinals, and Seahawks over the next three weeks before their bye.

AFC South

1. Indianapolis Colts (2-1)
2. Tennessee Titans (1-2)
3. Houston Texans (1-2)
4. Jacksonville Jaguars (1-2)

Who would have guessed that through three weeks, the Indianapolis Colts would lead the division, and the Jacksonville Jaguars would be in last place? Even without Anthony Richardson in the lineup, Indianapolis looked very strong offensively against the Ravens and could legitimately be in this race.

The Texans may have found a special player in C.J. Stroud too, who is yet to throw an interception in the NFL. They got a big upset win over the Jaguars, which landed Jacksonville all the way at the bottom.

AFC West

1. Kansas City Chiefs (2-1)
2. Las Vegas Raiders (1-2)
3. Los Angeles Chargers (1-2)
4. Denver Broncos (0-3)

The Chiefs have bounced back in a big way following their Week 1 loss to the Detroit Lions, and their defense has allowed just 19 points during their two wins. Meanwhile, the Chargers finally got off the snide this weekend even without Austin Ekeler in the lineup.

Looking further down the division, the Raiders may be heading into Week 4 without Jimmy Garoppolo, and the Denver Broncos just look like a massive mess.

NFC East

1. Philadelphia Eagles (3-0)
2. Washington Commanders (2-1)
3. Dallas Cowboys (2-1)
4. New York Giants (1-2)

The Cowboys were unable to keep pace with the Eagles in Week 3, falling to the Arizona Cardinals. The Eagles, on the other hand, probably put together their most complete victory of the season on Monday night.

Washington also saw their perfect season come to an end with a massive loss to the Buffalo Bills, and the Giants offense continues to look way too lethargic to compete for a playoff spot.

NFC North

1. Green Bay Packers (2-1)
2. Detroit Lions (2-1)
3. Minnesota Vikings (0-3)
4. Chicago Bears (0-3)

There are four 0-3 teams in the NFL, and two of them reside in the NFC North. Minnesota has played competitive football, but turnovers and poor execution have kept them out of the race. Chicago simply looks like the worst team in the NFL.

At the top, though, we get a Thursday Night Football matchup between the Lions and Packers at Lambeau Field to determine who will lead the division heading into Week 5.

NFC South

1. New Orleans Saints (2-1)
2. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-1)
3. Atlanta Falcons (2-1)
4. Carolina Panthers (0-3)

Once again, it feels like the NFC South is going to be a tight race to the end, even if the overall talent in the division isn’t that great. New Orleans and Atlanta have had long stretches of sub-par play on offense through their first three games, and Tampa Bay got beat up in the trenches by Philadelphia.
