Teddy Bridgewater Is on the Move Again

Drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in 2014, quarterback Teddy Bridgewater has morphed into quite the journeyman passer. On Monday, Bridgewater signed with the Miami Dolphins, presumably snatching QB2 duties behind third-year quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
Here’s Bridgewater’s career destination list to date:
- Minnesota Vikings (2014-2017)
- New York Jets (2018)
- New Orleans Saints (2018-2019)
- Carolina Panthers (2020)
- Denver Broncos (2021)
- Miami Dolphins (2022-)
Bridgewater was arguably in peak form during a couple spots in his career. First, in 2015, he earned Pro Bowl honors in just his second campaign, guiding the Vikings to a 2015 playoff appearance that was eventually marred by a missed 27-yard game-winning field goal against the Seattle Seahawks.

Eight months later, Bridgewater’s career was altered forever, injured just before the 2016 regular season commenced, keeping the young quarterback away from football for about two full seasons with a nasty knee injury.
Bridgewater bounced back, though.
When he landed with the Saints, Drew Brees was hurt for multiple games in 2019 — and the Saints were undefeated to the tune of 5-0 with Bridgewater at the helm. That was the second peak of his eight-season career.

After that, Bridgewater was a serviceable starter for the Panthers and Broncos but didn’t perform well enough to gain long-term footing with either organization.
In Miami, Bridgewater will earn modest money with some room for growth if he somehow becomes the QB1.
And eyeing Bridgewater for QB1 duty is not an outlandish theory. While the Dolphins win-loss record with Tagovailoa is impressive (13-8), the young passer has encountered injury, like Bridgewater, early in his career. Tagovailoa missed five starts in 2021.
Bridgewater will be 30 this season — if that can be believed — and signing with the Dolphins plops him in the city he was born, Miami. Before trekking to college at Lousiville, Bridgewater played high school football at Miami Northwestern.
