Questions Answered: Watson Mania, Conklin’s Status, Rebuilding with Rodgers Back in GB

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports.

The following questions are about current Minnesota Vikings topics, answered by VikingsTerritory. Today is the March 13th edition, addressed in a from-the-hip fashion. If you have questions, please email them to [email protected].

Also, please note: These are opinion-based responses. Some answers will be incorrect from time to time. But we’ll try to keep that to a minimum.

Q: I’m torn on all the Deshaun Watson talk. Sure, he’s good. But is he worth it?

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

A: No, we do not support the acquisition of Watson unless credible reporting suggests the entire saga was fabricated.

Twenty-two women aren’t lying — come on now. Something fishy transpired, and the question becomes, as a fan, whether you want your football team to be associated with the alleged misconduct.

Indeed, Watson is entitled to a second chance — like Michael Vick — but it doesn’t have to be with the Vikings. If the team does trade for Watson, the only solace available would be knowing Minnesota’s ownership, management, and coaching staff wouldn’t put the franchise in the hands of a creep. So, there would be some “explainin’ to do.”

Q: I’m hearing mixed things about Tyler Conklin returning to the Vikings. Will he be back?

Chuck Cook -USA TODAY Sports

A: Conklin will cash in on a large contract somewhere, and it probably won’t be with the Vikings.

However, he did say he’s open to staying with the Vikings, but Minnesota doesn’t really have the money for a handsomely-paid TE2. Conklin deserves a large payday — he was unexpectedly terrific in 2021 — but Minnesota already has big plans for Irv Smith Jr.

Kudos to Conklin, though, for making the most of his 2021 opportunity and saying he enjoys the franchise. That’s good diplomacy.

Q: Should the Vikings just rebuild now that Rodgers is back for 3+ years?

Aaron Rodgers / Jalyn Holmes
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers (12) throws a pass under pressure from Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jalyn Holmes (90) on Nov. 1, 2020, at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wis. Apc Packers Vs Vikings 22161 110120 Wag

A: No.

While Rodgers and the Packers do dominate the NFC North, the Vikings don’t really have a humongous problem with the Rodgers-led Packers. During the Zimmer era, Minnesota played Green Bay tough and wasn’t “dominated” by the green team. Individually, Rodgers always dazzles, however.

If the Vikings choose to rebuild just because Rodgers is back, that’s too much subservient behavior for us to stomach.

Load up and go beat the rival team. This is sports.
