Q: So, Kirk Cousins and the Colts is the new rumor, huh? How would that one work?

A: What team is not linked to Cousins for trade destinations?
That’s snark, but you get it. The goofy part here is Cousins would be marvelous for the Colts. Indianapolis evidently soured on Carson Wentz — really quickly — and is shopping elsewhere. Wouldn’t you know it, Cousins may or may not be on the trade block.
However, the Colts don’t possess a 1st-Round pick in 2022. They sacrificed that for Wentz in the trade last year to Philadelphia. If Indianapolis wants Cousins, they’d have to send a hodgepodge of mid-round picks from 2022 or 2023 draft capital to Minnesota.
Like any Cousins trade this offseason, we believe it’s a longshot. The Vikings must be blown away with a trade package to move Cousins.
Q: How do we even begin to predict who the Vikings target in free agency and the draft with Kwesi being so new?

A: You don’t.
All you can do is examine the roster and determine Minnesota needs cornerbacks and an EDGE rusher. Those needs are undeniable. Whether it’s free agency or the draft, Adofo-Mensah will sign and draft multiple defenders.
For personnel, the offense is in decent shape. The defense is not. Four or more starters are necessary on defense for the Vikings to be considered a playoff contender.
You’ll be able to predict the draft with more confidence when the first two weeks of free agency pass. This is the fun part, though. Spielman is gone, and we have no track record to guess what Adofo-Mensah will do.
There’s excitement in unpredictability.
Q: You guys had a piece on here detailing a trade of Dalvin Cook. What’s up with that?

A: Tom Gorski’s article was about trade ideas. He doesn’t necessarily predict Cousins, Hunter, and Cook will be dealt.
Most Super Bowl-winning teams don’t employ a handsomely-paid running back. It’s weird, but it’s the truth. Of course, the Vikings could win a Super Bowl with Cook — he’s a tremendous player — but most championships teams skimp at running back.
Tom Brady’s teams won seven Super Bowls with pedestrian running backs. Then, look at the tailbacks from the 2021 Rams and 2019 Chiefs — nothing top-tier.
